*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

I'm still staying with mine for obvious reasons that the OS itself destroys anything out there but the reception/3G issues are really getting me down now.

I've just got back from work and have observed the most erratic 3G/GPRS/EDGE connectivity ever. It was all over the place. As I reached my road, it dropped to EDGE and I have never seen it do that.

On a lighter note, the new palingro messenger app seems really good. Can't remember how different it is from the original due to me using the first one for 15 minutes and deciding that was enough time to suffer 3 crashes and numerous sign outs. Noticed an update in app store though and it seems really good now.

Here's a random thing I noticed earlier....

Now I know that with a jailbroken phone, its possible to have a snapshot of your 'Desktop' with some application. However, my phone isn't jailbroken, I just went to my camera roll album and I have a picture of my phone menu, its a bit blurry.

Any ideas how that might have happened?

Hit home and sleep button at the same time.

I can only assume 3g is broke. I've had wifi off for a few days, still no 3g. Been round my mates and he gets 3g, phones next to each otherand even with a reboot I don't get 3g. He got his phone about2 wks after launch. Mine is a release day phone.

Think I'll ring them tomorrow and see there response is

Well I'm away from home so the iPhone is essentially a laptop at the moment, and I must say it's even more useable than I thought it was. No problems using it to browse the web + msn (ok one), managed to kill a 3 hour train journey superbly. Unfortunately, and there always seems to be one, I am dead sure safari has a memory leak. It will crash every so often with long use without fail. The problem is only amplified with more complex websites and more windows open, restricting me to avoid certain sites all together and stick to 1 or 2 page browsing. Wish they would let Palingro run in the background too, please apple!

Urrrrgh, the seal on my iphone is still not properlly on. Its still letting light through! Should I send back this replacement for another?

Well I've decided to return my iPhone back to cpw as I'm not happy paying £50 per month over 18 mths....plus the fact that 3g on it isn't very fast at all and the battery really is dire...saying that I've enjoyed my time with the phone....web browsing is an absolute joy...one of the best phones I've ever used to browse the net....but on the upside I've decided to take my friends iPhone instead as she cannot get on with it....only problem is that I won't be able to use it till someone comes up with the unlock so I can use my tmobile sim with it...giving her £200 for it so I reckon that's a pretty good deal...

Good luck returning it to CPW :o

Right heres my current annoyance with my iPhone 3G, taken from my actual phone:

Browsing the web via Safari is usually a joy for the first 10 minutes or so continual use. I get no errors, no timeouts and speeds are near enough as quick as my 20mb cable connection whilst browsing on my MacBook.

However, after prolonged use of Safari, I start getting the above error almost every time I click on a link or try to change website. If I click on the link enough it will eventually load though. Not only that, as you can see from the screenshot above of Facebook, you can see Safari will change the font and the layout so it looks like the above. Images also won load. Turning the phone off and rebooting seems to cure it.

I was hoping 2.0.1 and more recently 2.0.2 would fix this but its still there more than ever.

Regarding the 3G issue, I seem to have no problem with that. I get 3G coverage almost anywhere I go and I do not seem to get any dropped calls or the like.

Anyone have the same problem or even better, a solution?

Tried a hard reset? (Connect to the Mac and hold power and home until the iTunes logo appears)
