*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

sorry if this has already been answered but i cant seem to find a definitive answer

is the UK PAYG pricing confirmed to be more expensive than the contract prices ?

I thought they were, but ive just read a link a couple of posts up that appears to confirm they'll be the same.

Yeah they're more expensive.

£299 for 8GB, and £359 for 16GB.

Is it easy to accidentally put something on a webpage like that??? I bet they did it on purpose to gage the reaction on the prices.

I agree, this is a case of O2 trying to be smart arses. People respect openness and transparency, but they seem to think it's okay to play cat and mouse with the release of the P&g pricing. Strongly reconsidering if I am going to but a new iphone now at all.

Actually it is quite easy. Somone must have needed to upload some changes, but the file they changed had the updated prices in ready for launch.

What usually happens is, if you're planning on making changes to your website, you put the content on, but dont make it publicly available. This gives you a chance to proof read it, check it works etc.. etc.. without having prying eyes see it.

Problem is, you've got the remove the links to the page after its gone up, and then link back to the old version of the page so the web site says current.

Its quite common when doing webdesign to have www.yourwebsite.co.uk resolve to just a holding page, but in reality if you keep trying www.yourwebsite.co.uk\index.php or \index.html or whatever you'll stumble across the in construction website :)

i doubt it. i mean, "apple know that mms is dead, email is the future ect"

/sarcasm.

........ It's appauling how it took so long to get mms, and apple will just spin this into good PR. Don't help them, or they'll do it again

that about sums it up!

the faith in Apple on this forum is crazy, it really is lol:p

I love my MacBookPro, but I hate the Apple community. When Apple correct a glaring omission, it gets applauded like the greatest event in history. The ONLY valid response to MMS on the iPhone is 'About ****ing time'.

this is also so so true. i doubt the apple fans will welcome mms, but people are flocking to the 3g phones like crazy when it should have been there from the start lol. fair enough if i didnt already own an iphone, but i just wouldnt sell my current iphone and pay for a 3g iphone on payg or get an o2 contract. perhaps if i was up for a new contract:)

The last thread was closed because of similar comments about MMS.

It would be nice to have, but there's no reason why email couldn't be used until it's introduced; that's my thoughts on the matter :/

Theres quite a few obvious reasons why email is not as good as MMS in the real-world phone environment - 2 notable reasons are 'instant' delivery/notification/access and that international roaming data charges are usually massively higher than MMS charging - I doubt Im in the minority of people who utilise picture messaging when abroad...

I have to agree james.miller and the people who arent deluded by Apple that it just wasnt a function they could remove. It would be interesting to understand the u-turn as its very unlike Apple...

Just been digging around and found this..

Q. Is there a limit to the size of a picture message?

A. Currently, you can send an image of up to 300kB on the O2 network. If your image is larger than this, your phone will automatically resize it before sending. If you wish to send an image bigger than 300kB, it is possible to send it via email. The size limit for an email sent over the O2 network is 2.5 MB

i thought that thread was closed because people were unhappy with the exclusion of MMS on the iphones that most of those people owned, not because of comments like i posted? certainly the last post from the mod that closed it inferred that. i still maintain, if that thread wasnt in the apple forum it wouldnt have been closed at all. people werent getting out of order, we were discussion phones we owned.

+1

The closing comment tried to insinuate that we were being petulant because the phone doesnt have mms - clearly not the case and I would argue it was actually the other way round.

It was closed because yourself and others were moaning about it not having MMS. It just turned into a spam fest.

It would be nice to have an iphone thread in the PDA or Mobile phones section - less likely to have bias and generally you can have much more honest conversation on such a device...

Perhaps Ill ask the Dons regards that...

well im not going to argue about it. i RTM'd that thread after you closed it and listed the reasons why i believe it shouldnt have been closed. of course, nothing bcame of it. If i cant talk about a iphone which i own in any negative way on an apple forum, then the iphone threads dont belong in this forum. you just said right there it was closed because of me - thats an awful reason. not one of my posts in that thread could have been RTM's for any reason. Infact, reading that thread its clear to see the abuse was heading in my direction from the people apposed to MMS.

It's a phone, it doesn't have MMS. Boo hoo (thread close).

That wouldnt have happened in the mobile section:) we shouldnt be limited to what we can and cant say about the iphone and wouldnt have been if talk hadn't have been moved to this forum. It's not general hardware, ocuk have nothing to gain or loose over this. When i can say what i want about my n95, but not my iphone, something isnt right.

anyway, enough of that. it wont go anywhere anyway. Anybody else seen the iMMESS app? let's you view mms photos without the need to manually navigate to the directory where SwirlyMSS stores them. one step closer:)
