*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

So how is data going to work on PAYG? I get the impression the iPhone pretty much relies on having a data connection and this seems to be the first time it's been available without an unlimited data plan....

how come there is no info on the O2 website yet i though it was going to be posted today with the PAYG prices.

Looks like I might be playing hookey on the morning of the 11th as I definitely want one now - stuck on T-Mobile contract until September/October. The £35 plan Im after is perfect for my usage considering I pay more like £42.50 already for similar service...

Can this be used like a WM device as a network point if you want to surf the net from a Laptop?

On the information that was leaked on the 02 site, the PAYG plan was detailed with a 6-month unlimited data plan.

After which, it will cost £10 a month to maintain the unlimited data access.

All. Been looking at an iPhone now, since my missus is jealous of my iPod Touch.
Am I correct in reading the O2 stuff online in that data is unlimited. So that's data via Wi-Fi (via Cloud or BT) OR data via 3G??
If so, I guess that means my wife now effectively has a phone that she can use to send emails for free to her friends and family in Japan.
How does mail work on the iPhone. Does it pull mail down off the server, or do you have to force it check for email?
If so, it pretty much works in the same way as Japanese 3G phone (they don't do MMS there, only rarely SMS and primarily email).

One area of concern was Japanese font support. My iPod Touch (Japanese purchased) has all languages for display and text input. According to the spiel on the Apple website, Japanese is a supported text entry language, but when we saw a iPhone V1 in the shop, it didn't have a Japanese keyboard option. Anyone know if this is changing?

If you sign up to an 02 contract you'll have unlimited data.. cellar and Wi-Fi data through the Cloud hotspots.

You can have push email if your account supports it (Mail is "pushed" to the phone as soon as it arrives), or you can set the phone to check at periodic intervals. 1 week, 1 hour, 15 minutes etc.

They have added a full Japanese keyboard, and 2 forms of chinese input (Traditional and simplified) and a sweet option where you can draw the character with your finger, and select the nearest match using advanced character recognition

Hope this explains.. I suggest watching the Apple WWDC 2008 keynote video from the Apple.com/quicktime site.

It shows a lot about the added languages

02: Apple iPhone 3G lands 11/07. We will text you shortly before with order details. As demand is very high, orders will be on a first come first served basis

Also got the text!

I feel special, if they give me it for free....well...hats off to O2 really. I'm on the £35 tariff.
