*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

can someone please confirm where I can track down and upgrade for £59 (on £45 per m option) a 16Gig White iphone 3G
When and where?

I can just see the white model not been an upgrade option. If someone cant confirm this then I will upgrade to Iphone black this friday

There is no such thing as white (right now).

oh right, dam

He means that the white is not available to pre-order, and will (allegedly) be delayed for the first 2 weeks of launch.

For those interested.. Engadget has an unboxing gallery of the iPhone 3G

aaaah

Well I want to know wether or not I risk not upgrading this week and waiting for iphone 3G white. If I pass up on it this week I could be waiting a very long time.

I'm somewhat confused, perhaps someone here can help:

I took out an 18 month 02 contract back in June 2007. I signed up for the 3G iPhone updates on the o2 website with my mobile number. They texted me yesterday to say "Thanks for enquiring, we'll contact you when your upgrade date is due".

I'm confused, since I thought you could upgrade to an iPhone contract easily from any other o2 contract, especially since I've been with them for more than a year. Do I have to wait 18 months?

Will be calling them tomorrow.

The free upgrade is from the V1 iPhone as far as I understand it. If you're on an 18 month contract with another handset, you'll have to wait until your 18 months is almost up.

I have come to the conclusion that having the iphone 3G will have no improvement in my life at all, if anything, turning me more of a poor (but cool) geek. I just found myself came home from work and laying in bed using my iphone surfing the forum via wifi. I can imagine that if i have 3G i will be surfing the net whenever i stop somewhere for more than 2 minutes instead of reading a book or talk to people......and i don't think thats a good thing.

Yeah, I expect I will be doing that too :/

Buying An iPhone

OK, so I want an iPhone on Friday, but have a few questions:

1. What are the chances of me actually getting one around lunch time?
2. What do I need to take with me i.e. proof of ID etc. (this will be my first contract)
3. How long will it take to sign me up? (as i'll be going in my lunch break)
4. When would my first monthly payment be due?
5. How long will it take to transfer my pay&go o2 number?

Many thanks :D

The answer to most of the question is same as getting EVERY OTHER regular phone, the iphone is nothing special in that regard.

Question 1 is depends on the stock on your local branch and how many people walk in to buy one between 9am to your lunch hour....which none of us knows.

What's wrong with the official iPhone 3G thread, or the countless others?

1) High
2) Driving license and a bank card (debit) will be sufficient
3) no one knows.. if it's anything like the V1 launch (where you sort the contract at home) it'll be under 10 minutes.. if not, 20-30 minutes.
4) This can be done in 24-48hrs, depending on the number of people who've done the same.

Would like a 3G white iPhone, just have to wait for PAYG prices, highly doubt Ill be able to afford it though :(

You'll have until "later this year" aka October-December to save up.

If it's anything like the leaked 02 prices.. put aside £400 and you're sorted.

That's a savings rate of £100 a month (if it launches in November)

Hence why I said that this will be my first contract - so my questions weren't iPhone specific.

Many thanks EVH, now if some one could answer me number 4 that will have cleared a lot of things up.

Cheers,

Money has come out of my account (credit card). Going by what people have said on this thread that must mean it's been shipped. :D

Just checked my credit card online, and the money's come out of my account as well. And only one transaction too! Halleluja!

Guess I can stop worrying now then.

Cheers,

I did answer your question but it seems that my reply ended up in a black hole because your thread was merged with the main 3G iPhone one.

Anyway, you should be billed a month after your contract starts. They can't bill you before they know how much you have spent if you use anything outside the bundled stuff such as extra texts or roaming fees (usage outside the UK).

My contract runs out on my current phone (with Vodafone) on the 7th August and I will be getting a 16gb Iphone 3G to replace it with.

Do you guys think they will have the Iphone in stock in a few weeks time after the initial rush this Friday to have one? Or should I bite the bullet and get one on Friday and have 1 month of bills overlapping (the last month of my current contract and the first month of my o2 contract)?

My concern is just that I don't want my current contract to end and then find myself in a situation where I have no phone because the iphones are out of stock.
