By killing the affordable Nexus line purely for the reason of luring in people who want a phone because of the price tag rather than features, releasing a £400 phone for £600 while it does nothing to justify that cost

If Apple can get away with it why not Google?

it just seems that I am no longer the person they are trying to sell the phone to

That's right, it's called business. You will have to dig deeper if you want the Pixel and if not then Google no longer want you as a customer.

It makes me lose a bit of trust, who's to say that they won't bring out the Google xxxxx phone next year and no longer give the 1 year old Pixel phones any of the goodies?

Google has already guaranteed OS and security updates for at least 3 years. You also have to remember that although you get iOS updates for much longer it doesn't mean your particular device will get all the new features as this is dependant on the newness of the hardware.

Don't you think having a strop and completely changing from Android to iOS is somewhat immature?

Use Google Photos - problem solved ;)

Plus it works better than 'Photos'.

Funnily enough I was reading something only last night about just how many iPhone owners run almost exclusively Google apps as they now run so well on iOS and make for a seamless experience.

I was never a fan of Safari or Apple Mail myself. Be interesting to to know just how many people on here run Google apps on their iPhones.

How does it work better than Photos? I take a photo on my phone, as long as it's on wireless, within a minute or so it's on all of my iOS devices signed into iCloud. I don't understand how that process could be better or easier.

Because it's known to be buggy. The problem is linked to issues with iCloud. Been lots written about this, plus Google Drive you get 15 gig free not the measly 5 gig with iCloud which if you have other Apple devices quickly gets consumed.

Works seamless for me too - plus who wants to trust Google with too much personal data...

Yes but then 50gb is less than a packet of crisps per month. That's not the issue, the issue is that Apple aren't great at cloud services so things like getting your hands on the simple jpg are frustratingly complicated presumably in the pursuit of "ease of use".

I've never had any issues/bugs. That said I don't use iCloud for storage of documents and data, only photos and backups. I use OneDrive because I pay for Office 365 and that gives me 1TB.

I agree the storage is a little poor, they really need to up it from 5GB.

Valid point. There's a good article here:

Google compresses your photos and doesn't keep the original, that would be a major sticking point for me if I weren't using iCloud/Photos for photos.

I don't mean to be difficult, but how is getting a jpg complicated? Copy/paste out of Photos or export, or download from iCloud.com etc.

Syncing to a Windows PC is not nice though, presumably for a reason.

Straight from the horses mouth -

You can choose between two storage sizes to back up your photos and videos to your Google Photos library.

High quality
Unlimited free storage.
Standard cameras: Recommended for phones or point-and-shoot cameras that are 16 megapixels (MP) or less.
Uses: Good for general printing and sharing.
Size: Saves high-quality photos and videos while reducing the size.
Original
Limited free storage: Uses storage in your Google account regardless of photo or video size.
DSLR cameras: Recommended if you take photos with a DSLR camera and want to maintain the original quality.
Uses: Recommended for printing large banners or for storing original files.
Size: Stores your photos and videos exactly as you captured them.

Honestly? I haven't used it since it was.. erm.. iphoto? Something like that on my mac and it drove me mad just trying to get to the actual file, put me right off. May well have changed..

In fact, my photo storage is the worst mess of my tech life, I've got folders and backups and external drives and google and it turns out icloud and all of it.

Does my head in tbh but I don't trust any of them to safely store the pictures I'll never look at again.

High quality, which is 16MP, so compressed, as I said.

Unless original and then limited to 15Gb so not that bad.

I've used the compressed thing on google and it's surprising how bad it can make the pictures. I went back to the original file size and I'll figure it out when I hit the 15gb.

Seems stores have taken mass stock as they have all 7s available and quite a few pluses!!

Just ordered black 7+ to have for 2 weeks to test and hope my ee order comes in the meantime..if not might just reorder another under the gfs for another 14 days!

What I do think will be interesting is the 2017 release. I expect that a great many people who went for this years not so new launch will either be pretty miffed or take a hit and upgrade to the all new iPhone.

Apple have always used the 'tick tock' model for their phones i.e. a new model with a new number with the following year more of an upgrade model and an 's' added on the end. Because the 10th anniversary isn't until 2017 they have been caught out with this years launch.

Who has been caught out? People know there's an upgrade every year and it was touted a while back that next years phone would be the biggy. Add to that, the iPhone 7 is a stonking phone...it just doesn't look much different. We're talking class leading internals/camera.
