Well I spoke to someone at Apple who said you have 14 days to exchange your phone so if they get stock in that time in the colour you want he said you could just return/exchange it. I've got gold and sticking with it though for my + 256gb.

No queueing at stores tomorrow then. And despite checking the reservations every day the Plus was always out of stock.

Fantastic, another farcical launch.

Yeah, because Apple have infinite production capacity don't they?

What do you expect them to do?

Actually it's a perfect launch..... Apple planned exactly this, to create a short supply sends people crazy with fever at getting one... Exclusivity is a powerful Apple selling point so designing in a so called shortage at launch is just part of the marketing.

If you believe they spend months making several million that sell out instantly then make millions more in two weeks your very much mistaken... They could easily create enough for launch day but choose not to.

Well I'm here in Australia visiting my brother out here and he's already got his iPhone 7 256gb in black for himself and his wife's iphone7 in rose gold again 256gb.

He wasn't expecting them to come so quick. Had a play with it and it seems pretty nice. I like the new home button. My iPhone 6s home button is on its way out so when I get back to the uk, I'll have to get it looked at...still within the warranty.

All in all it looks pretty much the same as my iPhone 6s other than the new home button and the repositioned attennas.

Personally I'm waiting for the iPhone 8 myself as my contract will be up for renewal next yr.

The only reason i'm going crazy over it is because I don't want to do battle with the crapshoot that is Apple's online stock checker. I've always avoided that scrum by turning up on the morning and grabbing one of the stock phones.

Now that avenue has been closed - and not even with any warning - i'm stuck hoping I can get one sorted in the 0.3 seconds each day the preorders go up before they all get taken and put up on ebay for twice the price.

All whilst praying the battery on my two year old 6 Plus can cling on for dear life.

Farce indeed, planned or not.

The battery for my 6 Plus is still going strong-often come home with 60/70% left.

My upgrade is due next month but with all these delays I'm wondering if I'd even get the phone I want then....

I wonder if part of the 'limited' stock numbers at launch is down to the OS - iOS10 only went GM ten days or so ago. Could they even start packaging phones prior to that?

What's happened during this launch is exactly what happens every time. People who get their preorders in during the first few minutes will get a launch day delivery, everyone else will have to wait. I've missed the last two preorders (on purpose) but nothing's changed since I did it for the previous phones.

Ee online order st 8.30am Friday and got the lol text. Can't believe this Iphone is so popular I mean it's a rip off compared to the previous ones.

128GB 7 costs the same as the 128GB 6S did but has a better camera, water resistance, larger battery, better performance, better screen....

Yeah total ripoff by comparison.

They could easily create enough for launch day but choose not to.

I don't know how long ago the design was finalised at Apple but even if it was 4 months ago it takes months to get things into production beyond prototype. A quick google shows that apple sold 10 million iphone 6/6+ (total) in three days.

Granted that the production process for the 7 isn't far from the 6 to all intensive purposes it will still require a retool and head of stock before things move. I read that to make the 4 they brought 25,000 Fanuc Robodrills. To tool and set and keep running 100 of these boggles my mind, let alone 25k.
Anyway, the logistics of having even 5 million of a complex product ready in less than 6 months are enormous.
