The last game you completed, and rating (Console Edition)

Last night I finished Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Overall probably not my least favourite of the series (that would be LiS 2) but it's easily the most disappointing one. I really enjoyed the previous game True Colours and had high hopes for DE as a result but it fell flat so many times. Max isn't my favourite character of the series and although she was more bearable in this than the first game, I still found myself rolling my eyes at various lines of dialogue, and overall the story felt a bit too much like a rehash of the first game with a different spin on it. Visually it was quite nice compared to the earlier games, but the audio quality and overall sound design was atrocious and inconsistent, and I encountered numerous bugs like objects hanging in the area after being interacted with, doors/items being open before actually opening them, missing sounds and characters suddenly appearing at the start of a cutscene.

They asked a near-AAA price for this (or a whopping £75 if you were careless enough to buy the early access Ultimate Edition) but didn't deliver a game with anywhere near the production value of one. Apparently it's been a massive commercial flop and I can't say it's entirely undeserved.

Lost Records from the developers of the original LiS landed on PS+ Extra a few weeks ago, I'm looking forward to giving that a go soon.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

7 out of 10

I enjoyed it during the first playthrough but didn't find it all that engaging once I had completed the main story. The previous Mario game I played and completed was Odyssey. Which I found myself going back to because the movement is so damn deep and rewarding. Where as with Wonder, I don't feel like I'm doing anything new or that inventive, or that hasn't felt better in previous 2D Mario games.

I don't deny that it's a highly polished, well made game.... I just don't think it's all that original or as memorable (and re-playable) as older 2D Mario games.

Odyssey 2 will be a day one purchase but Wonder 2 will be a wait until a price drop kind of game.

Completed? Blimey. Barely get the time anymore!

I reckon it's genuinely a Lego Marvel game with the kids :) Which I'd give a 3/10! lol

One I actually wanted to play? Man I can't even remember, it has to be a few decades ago. I guess I tend to play a lot of games that cant be completed, Fifa, Rocket League, CS, WoW etc. Maybe I should get around to actually completing something soon eh?!

Just finished Battlefield 4 campaign on normal after finishing BF3 last week on Gamepass. 6/10 Reasonably good overall - short and sharp and lots of shooting, graphically looks a bit old. Gunplay is great, loads of variety of weapons plus some vehicles you can jump in. Couple of bad points though, full of little bugs like getting stuck behind scaffolding and some repeating sound effects after exiting the area. Worst bit though is your squad AI, possibly the dumbest I have ever played and didn’t do anything for gameplay other than tell you when an area was cleared and you could move on. The signal for them to attack was utterly pointless so rarely did it. They would stand in cover getting shot by an enemy that was behind both them and you, at least they can't die.
Even though it was only on normal I felt it was super easy. A shotgun and LMG combo for indoor firefights and a sniper rifle after marking the targets with the binos for outdoor fights meant I was rarely in trouble. No COD like re spawning enemies means you can clean out vast areas from a safe distance.

I've just beat Stellar Blade (again) now I have a PS5 Pro, fantastic and a solid 9/10 for me..just about to finish a NG+, once I catch all the fish and finish the quick ending it'll be Platinum.

I'm not sure what to play next though... Demons Souls, Last of Us, Uncharted, Ragnarok, so many options!

I vote Demon Souls, one of the best remasters ever.

Struggling with it so far... I remember actually playing this a while ago when I prev had a ps5, so not actually the first time I've played it but think I only did a boss or two.

I finished sekiro not long ago so going back to this type of souls it feels very slow so going to take some getting used to, thought the first boss was very blah too, but will stick at it.

Just finished Split Fiction! Really enjoyable, definitely more challenging than It Takes Two in terms of needing to be in sync with your partner whilst playing it but overall a really fun game. More emotional than I was expecting too, a nice story though overall.

Graphics were stunning too, there were some amazingly creative parts towards the end of the game and the PS5 Pro looked incredible and ran at a lovely locked 60fps at a native 4k throughout.

Just rolled credits in Red Dead Redemption 2. Bought it on release day, 6 and a half years ago. Story 100% (overall 81%) today after just under 80 hours total play time or 4,793 minutes to be precise which works out at just over an hour per month. Also been divorced and remarried in that time :D
Pretty fed up with modern and new games so going through my back catalogue to finish a few older ones off.

I've been so conflicted with this game since the start. RDR1 is probably my favourite game of all time, loved every bit of it and the DLC as ridiculous as it sounded at the time was superb. I wanted that again plus more from the sequel and it definitely delivered that. I can see why so many reviewers gave it a 10/10 as essentially its an absolute masterpiece. The story, the characters, acting, sound and the graphics I feel are still the best we have seen on a console although I started it on a Project Scorpio machine and finished on a Series X. They have crafted a real world, not just landscapes on a map.

Took the day off to play it when it came out, spent most of the day on it and it just didn’t grab me the way I thought it would. There are some infuriating and awful aspects to it - the non cancellable animations when looting etc, the terribly bad cover system, the extremely easy combat, the slow movement round camp, the tedious horseback journeys across the map, the entire bounty system, the horse that will run wilfully into walls, post or other horses when trying to get away. They seem like little things but over 80 hours all that coupled with the poor controls and mechanics lead to what wasn't always an enjoyable experience.

A lot of the game had to be endured in particular the Epilogue which other than the last mission was terrible and felt like an after thought it didn't need. I definitely didn't need to be sitting through a few more hours doing things like pushing a stick up and down to milk a cow or tapping A to hammer in a fencepost. There is the whole of New Austin uncovered which we barely go into and when you do there is barely anything there even though just a couple of years later in RDR1, the towns at least are fully populated. The RPG elements to add some realism go a little downhill during combat. You health drains faster when you don't have the right coat on in winter but you can still take 6 or 7 bullets during a gunfight.

The missions are well thought out and varied although essentially they are still usually go here and kill this person but the whole thing felt like an interactive movie more than most games do. Rockstar have gone to great lengths to create the best open world we have ever seen yet the missions are so rigidly scripted - it's go to this exact spot, press this button, now go to that spot and press this same button. There are loads of ways some of the missions could be approached but there is no scope to do anything differently. Also found it odd that they same to use the same buildings for missions. That art gallery in Saint Denis for example we go in three separate times at least.

It's a 9/10 from me. It's far from perfect but far better than most games.

Finished Split Fiction. Playing it both with kids and wife.

Easy 10/10 It was not as short as i expected recent games top be and just had some much variety in style. One of best games i have ever played really. On PS5 everyone who game in was amazed at the visuals, its so well done graphically.

Finished Robocop: Rogue City last night. Mixed feelings on it but swayed by the £8 I paid.

The sound issues and graphics glitches in cut scenes were awful and generally the game felt like a nicer looking version of Unreal based games from 10 years ago (if not more). There was too much busy work shovelled in to make it feel like there was more to do, fairly common in games though.

Once the skills and gun were levelled up it felt like you were how Robocop should be, especially when shooting street scum. It was entertaining enough for the money, even £15-20. I am not good at giving ratings but I think 6.5/10 would be fair. I did start a NG+ but the game isn't compelling enough for that.

Deleted to make room for Split Fiction, which my daughter bought for us to play together.

The Last of Us Part 2.

Excellent gameplay. Interesting story. Amazing graphics and sound but it just went on for too long. I was ready for the game to end at the confrontation in the theatre and thought they could definitely have ended the story there if they wanted to. But to then add the best part of 3 hours after that really brought my enthusiasm for the game down.

I was ready to give the game a solid 8/10 when I thought the game was about to end but by the time the credits had started rolling I was annoyed with it so I have to give it 7/10.

I remember feeling the same way about the Uncharted games, that they always overstay their welcome.

P.S. people on the last of us sub Reddit are nuts!
