Still enough to have me purchase part 2. I am already enjoying this one more than the 1st.

for me it was the cost, as i have brought it twice before. The new ps5 version loses multiplayer and adds nothing but a few visual upgrades. It remains one of the best games of all time though
 
Plague Tale : Innocence

8/10

Put off playing this for best part of 2 years ( no idea why ) ; started playing it about a month ago on Xbox, then got distracted by other things only to find it had left Game Pass so started again on PS5 ( had it free as part of old PS Plus ).

Loved the big sister / little brother dynamic between Amicia and Hugo ; offset the dark, grim backdrop wonderfully.

Drops a couple of points for the last few chapters ( there are 17 in total ) which force the player to solve situations in one particular way. Also, had some issues with Amicia's sling shot "lock-on" which made some encounters with multiple enemies harder than intended.

Now I can move on and play Plague Tale : Requiem !

Huh? Joel and Ellie in part 1 were amazing. Part 2 is where they made you really hate Ellie. They also made you hate playing the game when you took over the 'other' character - but i don't want to play as Abby!!! I lost count of how many times i killed Abby before i just knuckled down and got on with it!!

Started Res Evil Village again since buying the DLC. Also bought the shop unlock and having great fun with the Stake :) I'm able to enjoy the visuals and story without worrying about ammo or deaths. Any quick ways to farm Lei? I'm struggling to fully upgrade the Stake :(
 
I think they tried to do a story of a journey of redemption but ultimately I just did not like Joel one bit. Even Abby in part 2 has some redeeming qualities and you can sense it is something Joel did that lead to these events.

I don't want to spoil it. But for me it is the slightly more open gameplay levels that help raise it above first game. They can get repetitive and you quickly learn that the best way through them is not to waste ammo. Just sneak/run because if you run out of ammo you end up stuck in the scripted can't be avoided gunfights with no ammo.
 
Horizon Zero Dawn. Probably 8 or 9/10.

I'll be honest, I probably never would have bought it as the premise just sounded whack but PlayStation gave it away free some time ago so I finally gave it a shot (very late to the party).

To start with, it didn't grab me. At all. I stuck with it and must say I thoroughly enjoyed it once the story progressed.

On a NG+ now to do the DLC (finished before tackling it and so thought I'd start from scratch - bit annoyed I spent a whole game carrying staff upgrades that I never used :cry:)

Good marketing though, I'll be picking up Horizon Forbidden West on the back of it. Giving it to me free will get one purchase out if them they wouldn't have gotten (I'm sure that'll make investors sleep soundly :))
 
2nd playthough of Res Evil Village. I bought it for the DLC, but haven't touched that yet!

I'm up to the factory and i forgot how much of a chore this part was :( But played the doll house part late last night - wow, soooooo creepy! Surround sound of baby noises, things getting knocked over etc when the mutated baby is after you - i nearly pooped my pants. If only a full game could be made with this level of creepiness.

Also now have fully upgraded the Stake - sooooooo much fun :)
 
The Medium (PS5) - 7/10.

I think I'm being a bit generous with the score here but it was good enough to keep me occupied for two days solid. If you enjoy the exploration/puzzles of RE etc but not the combat then it'll appeal. Finding the collectibles that expand the story was enjoyable although the story itself wasn't very interesting. Some of the "run/hide from the invincible enemy" sections were frustrating and Bloober have previous for these annoying sequences from previous games. The splitscreen was a neat game mechanic although it does mean the game visually doesn't look too impressive, as it's having to effectively render two environments at once.

Oh, and for a "current-gen" only title the load times were abysmal.
 
The Last of us Part II. 8/10

I think the story was fine if a little disjointed. My issue is that the story drove you forward and not the other way about. There were a few occassions in both games where it asks you to brutally kill someone to "progress" the story. So you are given the "press button" option but it is just there to force you to take part and somehow feel responsible, but it utterly fails. Frankly if I am not being given an actual choice just do it for me in a cut scene or cinematic.

I also grew very tired of the hackneyed way it made all the bad guys completely lacking in any kind of decency.

Ultimately an enjoyable experience in both games despite these flaws.

Is this a big open world game or a linear story?

Keep hearing good things about it but can't be bothered with another open world effort at the moment.

Linear. Lots of stealth and environmental puzzles to solve area by area. I’m about 30% through and loving it also.

On my first playthrough i cornered a NPC; the NPC dropped their weapon, fell to their knees and started pleading for mercy. I thought, "wow! This is cool" and so let them live thinking maybe this is part of the bigger game, showing empathy etc.

No, the second i turned around the NPC stuck a machete in my head.

I guess i was thinking too deep on the game mechanics :)
 
Last of Us Part 2

Thought it was as good if not better than the 1st, It was quite long, some chapters dragged a little too much for me, but the story was good and for me had a lot more depth to it and character development was very good.

I initially thought it was better than the first but it did start losing me towards the end. I think by then I was just getting tired of the serious plot holes and inconsistencies.

(Part 1)
  • Why did the Fireflies not just talk to Ellie and Joel together to give them the news on her being the cure. Let her make the choice and Joel would have no choice but to accept it.
  • Instead they put her under and began an operation that would kill her, yet never thought to tell her and get her permission?
  • Why were the Fireflies such dicks with Joel after bringing Ellie to them? Was it because they had to be dehumanised so you could kill them without remorse?

Part 2)
  • Why did Joel suddenly become an idiot and went to the obvious trap with Abby?
  • Why were so many members of the WLF allowed to go AWOL for months to carry out a Firefly revenge mission? Surely the WLF leader Isaac would not sanction such a mission as it had no benefit to him or his group.
  • This is evidenced by the fact that Isaac declares Abby a traiter after she goes AWOL for only one day and every single WLF member tries to kill her on sight

Still enjoyed both games and even thought the ending was kind of poignant.
