The last game you completed, and rating.

Silent Hill 2 - 9.5/10.

The granddaddy of Horror games, enough said.

I'd give it a ten but no game is perfect, though this is about as close as you can get.

Looks and plays surprisingly well considering the game is thirteen years old.

Played at 1080p with 32x CSAA, supersampling etc.

Borderlands 2: 0/10... and 10/10!

I'm a very fussy gamer in my old age. There's little new in gaming and it takes a great tale (Last of Us) or an addictive design (Plants v Zombies) to get me to put decent time into a game. Yet there was something about the meaningless, repetitive loot harvesting and sorting in Borderlands which unexpectedly lit my candle.

I recently picked up GOTY Borderlands 2 and found this combination of unusual graphics and simplistic gameplay hadn't lost it's appeal. So, 109 hours later, I'm still playing through again in True Vault Hunter mode. I even find myself farming certain pre-misson maps for extra loot and money. It is... troubling. :-)

In many ways this experience reminds me what a meaningless waste of life gaming can be. But at the same time it reminds me how useful it can be to have a time sink to escape into. In this case it's given me a welcome distraction while I lose a bit of weight. Whenever the Hob-Nob urge strikes I've fired up B2 and lost a few hours and -- often -- my appetite.

Now, excuse me, I have to return to my hunt for a pistol to replace the superb weapon I accidentally lost when picking something up with a full inventory. :-/

Tomb Raider 8/10
Good solid action packed cinematic experience.

I enjoyed this game and despite the slow start, after about 3 hours the game really picked up.

The visuals are stunning and Lara looks awesome. The gameplay is decent enough to enjoy with some very satisfying moments. Interesting physics puzzles too.

Story is below average. Not enough to spoil the game, but easily forgettable and some of the QTE's are frustrating. Thankfully these ease off the further you progress.

Murdered Soul Suspect 6/10.

The concept seemed solid enough, but the game wasn't great.

The demons were just stupid, rather pointless.
The "puzzle" solving was ridiculous, some of it plain made absolutely no sense, and a lot of it was incoherent!

The story was pretty good though!

Batman Arkham City 7/10

Not a bad game. If you’re a Batman fan you will love it and appreciate it more than I ever could, but for those on the fence I’d say yes it’s worth a play through, but perpare to be frustrated on occasion by the repetitive combat.

Just completed RAGE by id last night on hard.

Overall very good and one I will play through again at some point. Will probably play through on Nightmare difficulty next time.

If you want the best experience from RAGE you do need to put in a few tweaks. But once in there, it runs very well and looks good too. However there are some signs of consolitis that unfortunately there is no way to get away from. This game's ui was clearly designed first and foremost for control pads. Floaty mouse pointers in menu screens, weird camera control on vehicle sections and a crap inventory assignment mechanic.

Tech issues aside I love the Mad Max/sci-fi/apocalyptic feel even if by the end it tends to come across a little shallow and superfluous. Open world, but deceptively linear. Wacky mutants and enemies with a solid gunplay mechanic that never felt old. Yes its a strange one RAGE, but overall I liked it and it always felt different.

Trine 2: main mission

Finally finished after playing this through with my son (age 4) over the past 3 or 4 months - we weren't playing all that regularly, probably totaled 10-12 hours of actual playtime.

It was alright. Obviously it's a simply gorgeous game, easily the best looking game I've ever played, but I found the actual gameplay a little boring.

The puzzles always felt a bit loose, in that there wasn't a single "solution", and I often felt that I was just bodging something together, mostly involving lots of boxes and planks.

Once we got to the end, I was a bit disappointed to see there's a further "goblin menace" expansion included. It means The Boy will want to keep playing. Probably be another couple of months before that's finished.

Overall, I would say 7/10. Lovely looking, probably a lot of fun for some, but not really my sort of thing.

Dead Space 2

A lot more shooting than the first and puzzles are stupidly easy but everything else was great.
Graphics were awesome, no back tracking compared to first one.
and the different locations felt different (which must be hard being all on a space ship)

Defo as good as the first one, just in a slighty different way.

Crysis 3

I read somewhere a review summary that said there's nothing really wrong with Crysis 3, but there's nothing particularly great either. That meshes very well with my thoughts.

It looked great, and in some ways was the perfect game to showcase my new monitor. G-sync really made it a great visual experience. There were a few decent levels with human enemies, but even the outdoor areas only gave the appearance of open spaces and choice of approach. The Ceph populated levels were pretty universally duff and I just wanted to get through them, although the section in ruined New York at night was quite atmospheric. I hated the last boss. It was annoying without being challenging in a way that felt like you were getting a legitimate test. I died several times just due to getting stuck on scenery, or not being able to make out where I could run to at which times.Frustrating and annoying, and actually disappointingly easy to beat once I knew the level layout.

My main feeling on finishing the game was what a waste it was - a waste of a nice game engine and a waste of what started out in the Far Cry and the original Crysis as a franchise based on brilliantly-rendered open world action.

6/10 (I added a point just for the visuals, but they sugar coat a distinctly ordinary and limited game)

Ryse, son of Rome! 7/10
As I haven't played this type of genre for sometime, it was pretty fun on 42"+ xbox joystick. Graphics was amazing and as I am fun of Roman History, atmosphere was great...

Far Cry 3.

Really enjoyed it at first, but got repetitive at the later stages. So much so i wasn't even bothering looting everything, though i still found myself with plenty of cash for all the weapons i could ever want.

Finished it in just over 14 hours.

6/10.

Tomb Raider for the second time.

Finally managed to max this out with 4 x SSAA and it looked stunning in places. Mixed bag game play wise. Quite enjoyed the climbing, but 3rd person combat was mediocre. Then there's the QTE stuff. Fairly enjoyable overall.

Will likely play again some-time and try to get 100% completion.

7.5/10
