Hammerwatch 8.5/10.

I'm not a lover of 8 bit graphics or the art style that so many indie games take, but despite that, this was a little gem of a game. I'm not normally one for these kinds of games at all, but something about this intrigued me so much that I kept hovering over the buy button many, many times. I couldn't quite get to the point of pulling the trigger though, but ultimately it didn't matter as someone gifted it to me. :D

Another one that appeals to me in a similar way is Runers.

Funny thing is I loved Broken Sword back in the day, not quite sure why I don't get the Telltale stuff. Maybe I've just come to expect more. Don't know. Mind you I also tried Monkey Island remake not so long ago and thought that sucked too.

Probably just me. Each to there own :)

No, you're definitely on the money. It's the same clunky game designer used for every single game. That coupled with the somewhat awkward gaps in talking and emotions :x The only one I somewhat enjoyed was The Wolf Among Us.

If you want a good point and click, the Deponia series was pretty awesome.

Metro 2033 Redux

Still one of the better looking games i have played, i did dabble in the original 2033 but never got very far! i think my pc at the time was a bit weak to enjoy it in all its glory

visuals aside, the setting was nice! very eerie however some of the areas seemed to repeat themselves and eventually grew stale for me.

Nice variety of weapons and i like the post apocalyptic twist some of them have, like pumping up etc. Also the items such as gas mask etc really added a sense of visual immersion other fps games lack.

if i had to put a score on it i would go around 7/10

8 would be a stretch for me. Amazing visually with great ideas but the story and level structure were the weakest points for me.

Will have a break and play another game then return for Metro Last Light soon

I'm one of the tiny minority who just doesn't get the Telltale popularity. Tried my best to get into The Walking Dead a few times and was just stunned at how poor the gameplay was. The majority of the few hours of gameplay I experienced seemed like psuedo quick-time events and mousing over area's until an option was highlighted. The story might have been OK, but gameplay wise I seriously thought it stank. Then there was the poor porting issue of no keybinding and came to the conclusion that it was probably one of the most overrated games I've ever played of the past few years.

Of the few hours I played I'd have given it a 4/10.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

100% this.
Bought the 1st game and an hour in regretted it, gameplay was utter gash. They are nothing but modern versions of Dragons Lair which were ok 25 years ago but not now.

I agree re Telltale. The first Walking Dead was pretty good, but the others I have tired have been poor. They feature some really, really poor gameplay.

And in terms of story, they are incredibly predictable, as they all pretty much follow the same formula.

Rage - idk 6/10?

I played this when it first came out but didn't finish it so I played it through again. Way too short and the story came to an abrupt and unceremonious end. The last mission was way too short.

Gunplay was meh, enemies were stupid, textures were sub par, there was very little story development in mission. The only thing that saved it was some good atmosphere and visual design.

Dragon Age: Inquisition. 9/10.

Visually a step up from Dragon Age 2. Lots of places to explore, interesting characters and story. The whole Inquisition thing felt a bit like Babylon 5, with swords. The main villain was a bit limited but he was all about how he affected others so I was fine with him, and he was more interesting than Meredith.

Favourite scene was the card game scene, real nice touch and a very "Bioware at it's best" thing to do.

Watch Dogs - 7/10

Excellent rain graphics, reasonable driving physics. Good shooting, an acceptable story.

Brothers: A tale of two sons - 8/10

Lovely art style, cool gameplay and controls. IIRC the sound was rather good as well.

Far Cry 4

7/10

Probs and 8 or 9 if I had not played FC3 - Felt like I was in the exact same engine and co-op play currupted my pause menu UI and saved it to my character which meant starting all again! Still quite enjoyable and worth playing if you missed FC3.

Batman Arkham Origins : 6/10 Story or game play wise was not very impressed.
AC: Black flag : 6/10 Gameplay was similar to previous ones except the added onus on the naval warfare aspect. Not much additional content in the original story. Hopefully Rogue and/or unity will shed some more light on it.

Guacamelee (Gold Edition) 6.5/10.

I'm the first to say that I don't really play platformers and that I'm not very good at them. I'd bought this on a sale, or perhaps part of a bundle and Steam Roulette selected it for play.

Jumping from platform to platform, all the while doing the dimension switching and other special moves was at times infuriating. Really blummin' infuriating. Every time I was 'blessed' with a new ability I didn't celebrate... I thought 'oh dear... this will be tested... another button to remember!' I remembered why I don't play these games... get nearly to the top... press the wrong thing... fall back to the bottom... RAAAARRRGGHHHH! :p

BUT... I still kind of liked it. I enjoyed the challenge (I'm aware that it's not supposed to be particularly difficult!) and despite it doing my nut in I was determined to complete it, which I did last night :)

All that said... Never again.

The Banner Saga

Fairly short game whose length is rather artificially padded by long sequences where you wait for your caravan to plod along the snow-covered landscape. The game is clearly quite basic and clearly a small studio low-budget game, and it doesn't' try to pretend otherwise. It has a modest but quite effective art style that fits the setting quite well, and the turn-based combat is nothing I've not seen dozens of times before.

I do like low-fantasy settings like this, though, and it did a good job of creating a setting that fitted its Norse mythos type lore. There was not a great deal of tactical depth and limited character leveling, but actually just enough of each to keep my interest over the course of the game.

There wasn't much time or effort taken to flesh out characters or back-stories but I still quite liked a few of the companions and main protagonists. Also, the decisions you're asked to make constantly almost all have relatively minor short-term consequences barring maybe two or three which have surprising impacts down the line. The trouble is the consequences feel rather arbitrarily decided, with no realistic way to predict the likely outcomes of your actions.

Enjoyable for what it was, and I'm glad I picked it up in the sales. I think I'd be wondering what I'd paid for if I'd got it at its £15 regular price, though.

For a £4 budget game it's been a nice diversion, and worth a solid 7/10 for that.
At £15, I'd not be being so generous though, I don't think.

Mass Effect 1 7/10
Mass Effect 2 8.5/10
Mass Effect 3 9/10

Every time I play these 3 brilliant games I view them differently. However on this run, the original does show its age in terms of area/level design and how the levels are populated, hence marking it down. It's ageing.

I know Mass Effect 3 shares its love and hate opinions from fans, but for me I really noticed how much better the combat is over 2 on this play through. There's also the added bonus for me on this run of playing some of the dlc for the first time. And I thought Leviathan was good, but Omega superb. I know the ending is controversial, but I always didn't mind it.

Anyway great series and has taken me a month to complete. Classic stuff all in all.

Witcher 7/10- end of the game was a bit boring
Witcher 2 9/10- Would be 10 if not constant struggle to get some cash to cover Dark
Amor crafting
Now I'm ready for Wild Hunt
