Anno 2205 7/10

I love the Anno games but this was too short and too easy,no scenarios is a big letdown.
Enjoyed my time with it but after reaching 1 million population on the hardest settings theres nothing else to do :/

I have single scenarios in 2070 with a longer playtime than it took me to do everything 2205 has to offer

Just completed Tomb Raider 2013. Had it sitting in my steam library for ages (can't even remember when I bought it) and decided I'd try to clear it off my to do list a couple of weeks back.

Overall I found it to be pretty enjoyable, although the start was pretty slow and by the end of the game I was finding various aspects had become pretty repetitive (especially quick time sequences as Lara was traversing the environment). Would give the game a 7/10 overall. Wouldn't play it through a second time but it's quite an easy game to put a couple of hours into at a time. I finished the game with an 80% completion rate in 13 hours for anyone who's interested.

Witcher 3 - Incredble graphics (had 4K at the time which enhanced it a bit), good voice work, great side quests poor main story. I was one of the few it seems who actually enjoyed the combat, light years ahead of Skyrim for example. An easy 8.5.

Completed Fallout 4. Enjoyed every minute of it. Will replay after ive had a break and played another game.

Probably the best thing about the new style Fallout games, they seem to be re-playable endlessly, done Fallout 3 3 or 4 times and Vegas the same, and obviously all were different experiences.

I know when I start Fallout 4 properly(cleared out first town ready to build) I will not touch another game, so getting some quick games out of the way first.

The skyrim combat cant be compared to anything, its that bad. Just swing a sword in thin air while running backwards, ive never enjoyed that at all!

Didnt have a problem with W3 combat either!

Fallout 4
Finished last night. As usual for a Bethesda game, fair few points to make both good and bad.

I enjoyed the open world. The feel of a post-apocalyptic wasteland has always been done well in Fallout games I think and this was no exception. Lots of loot, lots to scrap and build, lots of modding, and some good depth to the perks system. Exploring, scavenging, scrapping, modding and character building were really addictive.

Some of the side quests were fun and I liked a few of the characters (the eccentric robots mostly). However, the main questline and associated story absolutely stank! Terrible writing, and nonsensical and infuriating decision trees you're forced down.

Preston Garvey also got right on my **** not long after meeting him. He spammed his irritating friendship speech every time I went near him and those endless radiant Minutemen quests!

Great soundtrack. Fair to middling graphics. Kept me busy for 90 hours, which is no mean feat but I was ready for it to end for a while before I finished, I only really dragged it out to avoid the horrible end of the horrible main story, and I doubt I'll go back to it. Not really looking forward to dlc with any anticipation.

7.5/10 - despite its drawbacks it did keep me entertained for a long time.

Before that:
The Witcher 3
The opposite of Fallout 4 in many ways. The loot, crafting and leveling systems were a bit disappointing (loot especially) but the story was possibly the best I've experienced in a game. Certainly in the top five anyway, counting many of the excellent side-quests as well. Very little filler or busywork and where it did exist it was well hidden by dark and/or humorous stories, intriguing characters and moral ambiguity.

Looked fantastic, ran smoothly, and the world felt more alive, real, dark and gritty than any other I can think of despite its fantasy setting. Some of the most memorable gaming characters I've seen in a long while too.

In contrast to FO4, after over 100 hours, whilst I had little left to do other than the main story, I didn't want it to end and I'm already thinking about when I'll have time to play the dlc.

9.5/10 - my game of the year with ease.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall

Heard this was the best of the lot, so gave it a go. I think it hit a lot of great notes in its weird mishmash of fantasy CRPG with futuristic elements and of course the turn-based combat.

The plot was surprisingly intriguing, largely because of the strange disparity of fantasy and sci-fi, I think. But also because it drip fed the mystery at a very satisfying rate, giving me motivation to do the next quest to find out more, which very few games manage for me. The writing and dialogue is very good, but I did think there was a little bit of conflict with the wordy, descriptive non-dialogue prose and the rest of the game's tone. But I cant fault the writing itself. Leagues better than the average game.

Presentation was hit and miss for me. I dont hate the art style, but I dont love it, either. Graphics are ok, nothing to write home about. It's all competent enough, I'd say. Just not a particular point worth bragging about, which is fine.

The game took me 30 hours to complete, which included just about all the sidequests(that I discovered at least). There weren't a ton of quests altogether, and each quest itself wasn't hugely involved for the most part, but I did enjoy the backstory and context of the missions. Things felt like you were doing something meaningful for the most part. I especially enjoyed the particularly teammate quests that unlock after a while.

Combat is what takes up the majority of the time in the game and really, it's basically Xcom-lite. Which isn't a bad thing at all, cuz while it doesn't have the depth that Xcom has, it does what it does well. So if you've played Xcom, you'll know exactly what to expect, except with magic and everything, too.

The game's length probably limits the amount of meaningful progression possible, so it was a bit barebones here, but it was serviceable and had enough to give you that carrot-on-the-stick 'hook' throughout.

Overall, I think the game is very good. I just cant help but think this style of game could do being bigger, longer and more in-depth. I know these are crowdfunded, so they can only work with so much budget, but the root concepts here are so good, that a game with 2-3x the amount of content, with more variety of levels and locations, longer and more complex missions, more in-depth combat along with a deeper progression system(balanced for the longer playtime) with more skills and whatnot, more enemy variety, etc etc - would make for a knockout game that could easily become an instant classic.

I'd give this game an 8.5/10. Definitely recommend it for RPG or turn-based combat fans. I just cant help thinking it could be so much more...

Batman Arkham Knight - 9/10

Awesome game, really sad to see the end of this series :(.

Despite its early problems they seem to have fixed it as it played perfectly for me, solid 60 @ 1080p on my GTX970.

Solid story, solid gameplay and a solid 60 hours of top entertainment. Worth every penny of the £26 or whatever it was.

Going through my Steam catalogue now my little one is starting to sleep in evenings a bit more!

Metro 2033 - 7.5/10

Found it a very hard game which is both a plus and minus. I still cant get on with checkpoint saves, for me its a massive negative that any game does this. The gas mask mechanic was only a problem for me because of the checkpoint saves.

I enjoyed it, have installed Last Light to carry on with at some point. Now just pondering my next single player game.

FIFA 15 – 7/10

Pretty good actually, better than expected after giving the last few FIFA’s a miss. And only a tenner as opposed to FIFA 16 costs full price. I think I’ll do this every year, buy the previous year’s version of FIFA for a fraction of the price. It will be almost the exact same game anyway.

Stumbled across this thread and it really made me ponder - I honestly believe that I've not finished a game since Manic Miner on the C64!!!! (now that was a challenging game - none of your unlimited lives there!!! :D)

I generally get bored well before finishing a game but the closest I've come since is Half Life (when it got a bit silly towards the end) and possibly Portal/Portal 2 where I might have completed all of the levels!

Arkham Knight, bought it on release (idiot) sat in steam library whilst waiting for the fixes. Runs beautifully on Titan X (as it bloody well should).

NY Resolution - work through 230+ Steam Library, plus uPlay, plus Origin etc etc and Batman AK was the first one. Thought it was excellent, finished main story, might not go back and complete the repetitve mines, riddler puzzles, tower clearance etc but gameplay is fantastic like previous Arkham games, visually very nice (on a single card), story well done, slight bit of repetition in terms of mechanics, though still enough variation as every fight is different but results in the same outcome (clear these guys out, now go clear these guys out, go destroy them tanks, do it again) but overall I'd go with 7.5 / 10 because the release issues were so bad for a 'AAA' game it can't have an 8 or a 9.

Next up is a choice out of W3, FO4, MGS:V, FC4 as they've all had about 3 hours each so far or one of the plethora of strategy games gathering digital dust. My new rule is to only buy a game once 3 games are complete (main story). Until Deus Ex comes out. Or maybe TW:Warhammer. Or x-com 2. Or :(.

Tomb Raider (2013).

Picked this game up for £2.24 on steam sale, so I should not really be too critical, but this was not what was expected from a Tomb Raider game. Still, it was an entertaining game while it lasted.

7.5/10
