The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

Thought it was really good, high hopes for this series. Zombie apocalypse-type scenarios are very tired so hoping it keeps things fresh by avoiding boring subplots and keeping to a lean main story.

There was absolutely nothing racially driven in any of the characters so didn’t acknowledge the race swapping at all, despite having played the game. Was of absolutely no consequence to anyone.

But the Hollywood Agenda!!!!!

:p

The opening scenes were fantastic – it really was a live action version of the game!! However, “that” scene was more impactful in the game.

Joel – I wasn’t feeling it when I first saw he was cast as Joel, but then “20 years later” and seeing the silver fox hair – yeah, I’m sold now.

Bella Ramsey – 100% wrong for Ellie. She can deliver the lines but her face is expressionless. Also as someone mentioned earlier, Joel is protective of Ellie in the game – I’m not feeling that with the TV duo.

Anna Torv – knew I recognised her, Fringe! Faux Olivia was smokin’

Excellent start to the series.

The character arc in the game builds the relationship, at he start she was just a job. However, by the time you get to the giraffe it's very different.

Yes I remember that too. In the game I found Ellie to be annoying but fairly soonish you begin to see everything change. The timing for the show is perfect, PC release of the remake is on March 3rd, so will be several episodes into the series and reliving some PS3 memories, whilst looking forward to picking up the game and playing in ultrawide on PC with all the new visual effects.

I get that, but the actress is like David Mitchell - dead shark eyes. Over the course of the game they are like father/daughter - just don't see it with Bella.

The "Anti woke" lot are absolute idiots, as an aside, awareness of social injustice etc does nothing, it needs to be more than just awareness, but representation brings out the idiots.
First episode was brilliant.

Oh I'll continue watching for sure, just first impressions.

This makes me want to play it all over again - for the millionth time!
Maybe the fact you have played the game 1900000 times probably means you have forgotten what it is like when Ellie is not the core of the story.

You are stating that Bella is not suited to play Ellie, dead behind the eyes and you cannot see a father daughter type of relationship being believable.

Do you think that playing the game through X amount of times, that as a result you fail to recognise Ellie to be anything but integral and important to the story and completely forget they didnt have a father/daughter relationship for a large majority of the game.

What I'm trying to say is, your comments about why Bella is not doing well as Ellie (in your eyes) is because the story is not that far along yet.

Take my comments as two fold:

Father/daughter relationship: fair point, their relationship grew as time progressed.

Bella: the dead eyed, expressionless actress has been miscast as Ellie.

I'll admit I've only played a little bit of the first game and mostly watched other people play the games but I just don't buy Bella as Ellie and don't think that is going to change.
