The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

That part when one of them was shot by Joel and the fungus alerted others far away, that scene didn't seem to be in the game?

No, that is a new thing for the show.

And they referenced Bloaters as if they were ridiculous stories, so they might limit the clickers to the zombie types + the blind ones?

Or maybe they are setting them up for later?

It being in the flour made sense when you see that Joel never got to eat pancakes, or have his birthday cake, but the old lady neighbour was eating biscuits.

They aren't really using spores as a way to transmit in the series, which makes sense they don't want their actors wearing gas masks for large portions of the show, which is why they switched to tendrils and fungus which works better for TV.

Is that exactly the same in the game? Because i thought i saw them wear gas masks in a trailer or something before.

Thought it was a great episode.. Still not sold on the tendrils from their mouths tho..

Thought it was weird that it looks like that infected was trying to snog her to death... Oh and WTF? there were grenades on the floor, surely an quicker/easier way out that a flipping lighter, explosion and subsequent burning to death!

yeah the lighter not working scene is just an annoying trope that needs to go away, she didnt need a flame to ignite the petrol just a spark from the flint, or as you say just use a bloody grenade!
Also not sold on the infected are in mass communication with each other, seems a lazy plot device to be able to trot out whenever they want to bump up the suspense, why did the fight with the clickers not call in the reserves so to speak - also for someone that has fought clickers before Joel seems to be a bit **** in not going for head shots..

Agreed.. It did make me laugh tho when he was quietly unloading his revolver.. and didnt think to use the spent casings to throw to distract the clickers.. Maybe he can only do that with bottles and bricks ;)

I will say however the setting if a huge city after the fall was fantastic. Not sure what would have caused a huge building like that to fall tho.

The building leaning was straight out of the game.

I don't know if it's possible in real life, but it was a nice visual.

They also did say Boston was bombed.

Not played the game, but there's something huge climbing out the floor in one of the Tv series trailers ..

Yeah i thought it looked great and i know they bombed the cities as it was referenced in the episode but the crater was much smaller and wouldnt have thought that would cause a skyscraper to topple over. Meh its a show, i guess its a bit of artistic licence.

Watch ep2, this has definitely got legs. Still hopeful I can persuade the other half to watch along with me but no matter how much detail I point out she's still seeing it as a generic zombie show. My only gripe so far is as someone said above with the clickers, why not throw stuff at the other side of the room to distract them?
Fair enough, I’ve just watched episode 2 after downloading on my SkyQ box and there’s no adverts, just 51 minutes straight through.
That's good to know actually, thanks.
That was quite well done I thought, proper nuke it from orbit stuff.
I wasn't sure about that. I can't imagine that would be anyone's first idea in a pandemic/outbreak thingy. Especially a Doctor's

Really liked this episode.

I think they've still got a lot of work to do though. The zombie narrative was played out even back when the first game released and now it's well and truly cooked. The quality of the writing needs to be spot on for it to sell at this stage which, so far, it has been. The themes and character arcs are what made that game so distinct, I just hope they know that going forward.

They changed the method of infection delivery in the show because they didn't want the cast wearing masks as we couldn't see their faces. In the game there are indoor areas where the fungus releases spores into the air and when those are breathed in, well you get it. In the show the method of delivery seems to be bites and tasty tendrils.

Episode two was again, ok. The clickers were fun but visually off, it all looks good but they've taken the game aesthetics and put them on steroids, and it looks fake.

The lack of spores and masks almost makes it feel like a generic zombie show, but nice to see more about the origin of the infection.

Ellies range of facial expressions hasn't expanded from the two in the first episode. :)

The best thing about the show so far is what the producers have done investing the first 10mins to show us what happened in the past. So far the two episodes opening segments have been tops. I can't wait to see more.
