The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

It's one of those games that's best suited to a controller to be fair and couch playing.
All third person games are. People who can't get to grips with a control pad are weird.

But then I've grown up with PCs and consoles so I can do both. I will try and avoid keyboard and mouse controls at all costs, unless it's an online shooter.

I'm really surprised so many haven't played one of the best games of all time.
How are we supposed to play a game when we don't own a console and said game isn't available on PC? Also, 'one of the best games of all time', I know it's subjective but I doubt it's up there with the best of all time.

I'm also really people haven't owned a PS3 or a PS4. It isn't really subjective, it's won plenty of awards and stands in high regard. You ought to actually play it first before deciding if it's good or not.

Storywise and character development it definitely was, the gameplay however was always on the 'meh' side.

So, I'm late to this but anyhow.....

I agree that this type of storyline (3rd episode) is much more usually found deep into a show rather than in the 3rd episode, it's often something you get a sense of that they are really running out of ideas, akin to star-trek doing some timewarp/dream sequence when anything goes. So in that regard disappointing. Leaving how it eventually ties back into Joel and builds his character, its a drama that could turn up in any show. i.e. eastenders or any of the UK soaps have had special episodes that concentrate on just a couple of characters, given the rest of the crew a day off.

Having said that, I did feel a bit iccky when they were doing the "go get a shower" and come-to-bed bits, but thats just me. It was a wonderful human interest drama, and basically shows exactly the type of person that Joel is (a protector), even though he isn't in hardly any of it, and he doesn't recognise it in himself.

And then that music...yeah clearly I'm not as well "listened" as many here, but when it started I went "wow that's great......and its staring a memory...I've heard it before". A quick shazam and google confirmed it the memory jolt was from Arrival (a brilliant film). That music is the most emotional, wonderful, melancholic piece I've heard in a long time. I spent the next couple of hrs youtubing and see Max Richter and the ensemble doing it in a studio, and then watched the full orchestra version, and then your gal Moss doing her thing to it etc. The music is now seered into my mind, apparently it is now overused, but for me becoming fully aware of it for the first time marks that episode up for me.

I have not played the game, so excuse me but the bit where the young girl is in the hidden room and comes across an infected that is trapped marks a turning point in her character. Up to now she has played a very funny (if dry humour) quite ballsy girl who is at the same time quite vulnerable, but for such a young person cutting into a trapped humans head with a knife (yeah a zombie or whatever but even so) was quite sadistic, and then the slaying without the slightest sign of remorse. Is it going to turn out that she isn't infected per se, but whatever she has that is countering the normal effects of the fungus, is having other effects on her ? Or is she just a latent nasty piece of work ?

Horizon Zero Dawn is the best game of all time....period. The last of us is top 10 though. If you go back a few years before playstation games ported over to the PC, I'd say the investment was well worth it.

She definitely has a sadistic streak in her personality. I wouldn't say she is a nasty piece of work though.

That's not really a spoiler, they briefly mentioned it on the The Last of Us HBO podcast about this episode.

As much as I love that piece of music, it is unfortunately quite overused and I was surprised to hear it on TLOU. I personally remember it mainly from Arrival and it just triggered memories of that film, which I'm sure is not what was intended. Another piece of work would have been better, imo.

Which of course requires one to have seen the podcast to know its not a spoiler :)

She was enchanting her knife with +10 Disease damage :p

But honestly, not totally sure, it was never covered in the game and definitely a detour away from her character. I took it as curiosity of what's underneath the infection, as she is partially infected - she's immune in the sense that she doesn't turn into an infected, but she's not immune where the bite has no effect as you can see the spread of the tendrils under her skin near the bite, and it's also why she still tests positive on the scanners as it's in her system. As for the stab, that is more in-line with her character, but not in a sadistic way.

Have you played Part II? I would say she is very sadistic then. They have an opportunity to sow those seeds.

I won't say any more but she kills a lot of people in that game

Similar thoughts to these guys about episode 3, pretty much nailed it.
Yep, totally get it. It's not that it's a couple of blokes, if it was a man and a woman or a woman and a woman id feel the same way about it.

I also am not a great fan of feet though.... You know, like when they are out on display, right in my face.
