The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

The show will be "in the can" either way so I'm not sure why it would matter if it's a weekly release or all in one go.
My cancellation comment was more about shows that get released in entirety on the likes of Netflix week one, get binged and renewed for a season in a few days.

When something is shown week by week, you get a far clearer idea of viewer impressions if they are making the effort to tune in week on week. If the writing is poor, it's far more glaring when you have to wait a week for an episode rather than just sitting and hitting 'play next episode' hour after hour as nothing really settles in consciously.

A whole bunch more reviews - The overwhelming majority are very Good with only a few saying "good but flawed in places" as the worst, so hardly a huge negative there -

With the overwhelming amount of fan love shown to the first game, followed by a severe backlash against the 2nd game, it'll be interesting to see if the die-hard fans are willing to come back for this or whether there will be another negative fan reaction/review bombing once it goes live. As previously mentioned I loved the first game and avoided the 2nd but even so I'm still hugely interested in this, mostly down it being based around the 1st game (so far) and being HBO who generally don't make "bad" TV shows.

Still think Pedro is a really weird casting choice for this.

Thing is Pedro is kind of like Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock - an odd choice but manages to portray the essence of the character. Not feeling the same for Ramsey - she might do a decent enough job acting wise but just doesn't feel right for the character from the games.

EDIT: Episode 1 was OK but relied a lot on the viewer having some idea of the games and story wise felt all over the place and a bit vague.

Not seen/played it but think it centers on a father/daughter relationship in a post apocalypse world with plant zombies.

Edit - not father and daughter, but imagine they essentially become one.

First EP was okay but I'm getting those "I'm not going to see this through" vibes.

That said, I'm also someone who saw The Walking Dead out so if this nails a different take on a post apocalypse world, I'll probably hang on.

Can a fan summarise this in 100 words or less plz

Walking dead but mushrooms?
Teenage girl coming of age with apocalypse?

It follows a simialir sort of narrative trajectory to what we've come to know from zombie stuff, but it's much closer to something like 'The Road' thematically then it is Walking Dead/Romero stuff. I wouldn't say it does anything to break the mould especially, it's where it goes with it all that hooked people when the first game came out. The two central characters are intriguing and there character arcs are superbly well plotted out throughout the first game, not so much the second imo... but that a story for another series (hopefully)

Ellies casting is a poor choice, doesn't work at all for me, too old.

I'll watch the first few episodes, but the casting doesn't look good..

Bella is a crap choice IMO, and hideous to look at

Agreed, but that's feminism for you, got to give the gremlins roles now. :)
