The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

Does she look the right age for the established character? No.

ah yes silly me, someone commenting on a woman who isn't exactly blessed with good looks means they want a 'hot 13 year old' to play the part, awesome reading skills you have
The established character was digital and she certainly looks young. Regardless of the looks in the context it is very odd.

Thought the first episode was excellent, so faithful to the game but also fitted perfectly on TV.

Some strange comments in this thread, some of you need to have a word with yourselfs.

Looking forward to seeing more episodes, see what they add in and expand on now I know it's very faithful to the source material.

Watched the first episode.

Miscast on pretty much all the characters. Although Joel's actor is pretty good.

Giving it a 6/10 so far. Wonder if it'll be another dud like LOTR. At least I made it all the way through the first episode whereas LOTR I could only do 20min.

Excellent start to the show. Great atmosphere and visuals right off the bat as per the first game. Bella is a rubbish choice so I hope she can pull this off.

Yerp. Just as traumatic.
Forwarded to that scene as my child wants to watch it and i obviously know the story. Horrific.

Really enjoyed it. Not particularly fussed about changes to the story or cast. They're going to have to change a fair few things to make it fit a new medium, but amazed how true to the game they've been able to keep it so far (which I assume is down to Druckman being exec producer).

My biggest worry is how they're going to pace it out but so far it's seems to moving along steadily enough.

"I'd just wish they'd cast the most capable actors instead of conforming to some politically correct studio targets. I really don't care who's cast so long as they're white and cute in an underage sorta way".

Casting changes don’t bother me but Sarah was too old. Also a certain scene was better acted in the game.

So glad I can enjoy this from not playing the games in case it flairs up my racists pedo ways. Some of you here need to sort yourselves out.

Troy Baker (Voice Actor who did the voice of Joel in the game) is on a podcast call Play Watch Listen, the latest episode he talked a bit about this show, i think he has seen it all now. Mentioned that the first episode was originally 2 episodes but they decided to join it together. The rest of the series has shorter episodes. It feels like originally ep 1 was before the time jump, ep 2 is after it.

I’ve only played the game right up until the end of this episode so know all this already and having watched a play through of the 2nd game i know the ending too….but this series is all very well done.

Joel is very much on point but Ellie is different, this one seems more headstrong than the game’s character but works for the show.

Watched the 1st one earlier, seems solid enough but something just feels off for me. The 'scene' didn't feel as impactful as the game for example. Casting is all wrong imo, characters are either too old or not old enough, casting the actor that voices Marlene in the game as Marlene was a good call tho.

I quite liked the first episode and don't mind Pedro being Mexican, Sarah being black but, for me, Elle really did need to be a younger looking actress (despite thinking that Belle is a very good actress) because the point of the game is that the player (or the viewer watching Joel) should feel protective over her specifically because of her young age - she's a literal child, not a 18/19yo teenager - which Joel eventually becoming a father figure to her, so an actress who doesn't look like a "child" can't create that same visceral "dad protecting a little kid" vibe thats the whole arc of Joel's story and when that fails the rest of the story starts to fall apart.

So yes, Elle appearing to be "young" at 12-14yo (irrespective of actress age) is absolutely essential for the rest of the story to work!

Oh it hit me way more and i knew what was coming. Im assuming its because ive had 2 girls since and they are a similar age.

Really enjoyed this and looking forward to the rest of the episodes and imagine it will finish just as the PC port is being released , time for a 3rd buy

I've completed the games 5 times across ps3, 4, pro and 5. Watching this just made me want to buy the latest remaster.

Really enjoyed it. Casting has been decent I think, but still not overly sold on Ellie who is such a massive character in the game. Hoping she grows on me but a very solid start.

That scene still got me in the feels though. Every. Damn. Time.

Also Joel picking up an endgame weapon near the end of it should make things easier
