The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

is the second game any good? I loved the first one, but then between finishing the game and the second one coming out I sold my playstation.

Depends really.

I was always of the opinion that it should have been a 'one and done' thing. That ending was just perfect on every level for me and it didn't need to be built on. Was willing to give the second game a shot though and was looking forward to where they decided to take things.

I won't spoil anything in case you decide to play it, but I really wasn't a fan. For me it was too long, too thematically all over the place and just too miserable. It definitely has it's fans and champions though and definitely worth a go if you enjoyed the first.

I've said it here before, but the second for me is one of the extremely rare instances of a game being made in the wrong medium. They will loose nothing by taking away 'player agency' in the transfer over because the themes work just as well without it. It's not like the first were spending time with Ellie is essential to sell the ending. There's just so much more going on in the second game and having already been sold on the characters you're essentially good to go as a viewer.

Such an epic story, so many good memories of the game. I love the sequel too, so looking forward to the rest. Best games I’ve played and they’ve done it justice on tv too.

Just finished the TV show season 1 and really enjoyed it. Like TWD, they had a small amount of 'have tussle, zombie mouth goes no-where near leg, but after realise they've been bitten on leg' which I always find odd, but overall was very good. I guess the other negative was sometimes an episode felt a little like an isolated story. Not totally a bad thing, but you meet a character, learn about them, then they're gone... Without checking, I would assume Joel and Ellie are the only two characters that appeared in more than maybe three eps?

I did really enjoy it though, to the point I was wondering about buying the 'new' PC game coming out soon. Has it been spoilt by me watching the TV show though? (I also know I bore of single-player games really quickly, so I know now I'm thinking I'll play it, but I don't get to the end of many games at all. How many hours of playing time is it? If it's under 20 I might have a chance.)

It's a good often great show that has a few 10/10 episodes..the finale was ass and felt like a complete 180 on Elle's character.

So all in all given everyone's perception of game adaptions this has surpassed expectations its just that I think its quite easy to see given the truly great moments in the show that it could have been more consistent.

Problem is to do that they needed more backing which they didn't have at the start of production.so hopefully the next season or two will be better overall.

Why did it feel like it was a complete 180 on her character?

Did you forget the trauma she was carrying? Having to Cleave somebody's face to pieces after they threatened to eat you and tried to rape you tends to leave a lasting lifetime impact.

I have to say the cast for Ellie’s mother was uncanny. I was convinced it was Ellie with some CGI aging.

It's really kind of eerily perfect how that worked out. Not only did she actually look like Bella to pass off as her mum, but being the person who performed/voiced Ellie from the game.

Before the show aired I was really keen to play the game, now I have little interest - not in a bad way though. I feel like the show has filled my curiosity and playing the game so soon after the show might just feel like retreading the same steps with some zombie killing inbetween cut scenes.

Pretty sure it happened in the game but after Marlene pointed the gun at Joel, she should have shot him, somewhere, even in the leg. She knows he's a capable guy hence gave him this job and he solo'd every other person here but didn't act. She said it herself, if he tries anything, shoot him. The guy nearly 10+ (don't get me started) people in that building part of your group and lead scientist. He's holding the person you need to save humanity and you decide to have a conversation with him. He should have been shot.

Play the game, honestly. It's one of the best story driven games ever made. It's WAY better than the series. I am still quite surprised people haven't actually played the game considering how highly rated it is.
The series for me started great but fell off massively.
The game stuck with me for years.
Play it and see.

As above my reply to SixTwoSix. I also get bored of single player games it gripped me and I finished it the weekend I first bought it on PS3. Then again on PS4. Next, pc :-)

I'll grab it when it hits the £15/20 mark, my normal biting point for a game, I think it's probably more accurate to say I just don't have the interest to play it now, straight after the show has ended.

Yeah I get what you're saying. The game did the story better than the show so it's definitely worth playing when you fancy it.

Well if it can exceed the show, i'll be happy, i've enjoyed it all throughout and i'm normally an absolute nightmare to please and pick fault in a lot of TV and movies.

I've obviously seen some gameplay over the years and the one thing that does put me off is the QTE i've seen, I really hope they're few and far between as they are immersion breaking for me.
