awesome game and looks amazing on a lowly 3060ti and 13600k DDR4 4000, everything maxed bar textures at high, 1440p DLSS quality.

I was crashing as well, turns out it was my memory overclock, slackened some timings and now runs great.

For me it’s a stutter fest. 5800X with tunned ram is clearly not enough for this game.
Often drops to ~70fps with CPU usage at 100%.
Running a 13900K With DDR5 7200Mhz CL34 and CPU usage not going above 23% while in game although my mate who is using a 10700K with DDR4 3600Mhz CL34 said its awful and like you has CPU usage at 100% , clearly needs a few more patches to get it running nice on all setups

Why are there still no reviews on Metacritic

CPU usage on mine at 23% in this scene, it will fluctuate a little but nowhere near 100% ... GPU is pegged but to be expected .

My mate with 5960X can’t even run the game as shader compilation crashes his PC lol.

Tried restarting the computer and trying again ?

Mine was stuck at 100% even after completing shaders restarting sorted it

Yeah I did but it did not help and I didn’t expect it to.
CPU is not stuck at 100% in my case only occasionally gets close to 100% but when it does it stutters and vrr doesn’t help at all.
Locking framerate to 60 doesn’t get rid of stuttering.
I’m still playing it despite that as the game is great otherwise.

Just saw this posted elsewhere:

Apparently, cracked versions of the game may have some fixes for some crashing and shader compile speeds. Something about DLSS fix .ini and swapping some DLLS. If true, these might be quick issues to resolve.
Once again, modders/crackers to the rescue...

patch fixed loading times for me - seen up to 900mbps on drive now and game loads under a minute.
900mbps is about 112MB/s, that's not very fast at all :p

I say this because I've monitored multiple times before and after the patch, and see no change. The game saves have always taken about 56 seconds or less for me too, and whilst loading, the SSD read/write speeds have been woefully low which explains the long load times.

I mean check it out for SSD usage whilst the save is half way through loading:

se4Ygt3.png

89MB/s read but 367MB/s write, it's like as if it's slowly reading game data and putting it into RAM/VRAM, sending the data to the CPU to process, then writing a bunch of data back to SSD. Why is it this long winded? Who knows lol. Given how static the game world is, you would expect the save to load virtually instantly. Dead Space does this perfectly, Uncharted loaded very quickly too, seconds, whereas TLoU needs ~56 seconds to load

Anyways, onto a more positive observation, the mouse/kb mapping controls are quite robust, I have now mapped the back and forward buttons on the mouse to be 2 and 3 in-game. When you hold them down, you can then cycle the weapon active in that slot. Saves having to move my left fingers away from WASD etc and all camera/weapon tasks are done solely from the mouse. I love how this mechanic works, I liked it on the Playstation controller back in the day, but it's just even more versatile on mouse.

The gun mechanics also, unchanged from the PS version but playing on PC just feels more precise, the sound has a satisfying feeling to it, the fov lends itself really well to ultrawide, it's like you're the camera behind an actor in an action movie, and how fast paced some of the shootouts can be with both humans and infected. it really has kept me twitching and on the edge of my seat at times so far.

So as a game it is basically perfect, everything I expected it to be with some surprise elements like how detailed everything is and the vast number of graphical enhancements which weirdly Naughty Dog/Sony never cared to actually market for the PC release but instead banging on about "unlocked framerate" and ultrawide support, like as if those basic things that are standard on 99% of PC games are a magical thing suddenly lol.

But from a technical point of view, yeah all those issues people are having, all of these should never have passed quality control at Iron Galaxy. Naughty Dog themselves started and progressed the PC port of this, then handed it over to Iron galaxy to finish off. Obviously the latter was a huge mistake, and the former is very obvious in the actual gameplay and world itself.

5800x should be fine something's bugged out

mines crashed twice randomly , thinking maybe because its too close to the vram limit even though getting decent FPS no stuttering runs smooth, 1440p maxed / dlss quality , 5800x3d / 3080

4090 & 5800x also stutters during start running through holding daughter before that was quite smooth , not updated graphics driver yet thou. 16gb VRAM @ 4k wowser

CPU seems to stay around 95-98% utilisation, GPU though is around 30-40%. Would I be right in thinking I'm CPU limited and unable to take advantage of my 3080? (4930k @ 4.2) Performance feels off to me but I'm happy to accept it might be my hardware.

Despite the long unlock time & shadow compiling. Despite the less than stellar framerate performance (as low as 17 in the high rise section :( ) this is such a beautiful game. I've never been in a game environment and spent so much time looking up, around and exploring every corner for a new detail. The character models are fantastic, so lifelike and full of expression.

Despite the performance not feeling right, I've oddly not had a single crash of any description.

By the sounds of it this is a game that could really do with DirectStorage. I'm watching how you get on uscool as I have the same setup as you. Have you tweaked your 3D or ram at all?

You only got six cores right? My 4930/Xeon could do 4.5 so you could try pushing for that. What speed DDR3 you got? That could help too but there's no point dropping money on bits for that CPU anymore unless you get some really bargains

Yea, 6 cores I believe. My old chip would be stable at 4.6 but this one is happier a little lower. I have 32GB 2400 RAM.

I have been due an upgrade a little while but I've procrastinated over what to go with.

It runs very well for me in ultra at 1440p at a locked 60fps (though I do have the mouse stuttering which I need to sort out with the nvidia control panel.) 5900X + 3090FE.

However after a very promising start, being wowed by the graphics and the emotional intro I then find that the control rebinding is broken and you cannot remap the weapons cross off the arrow keys! As a left-hander I use those keys for movement so whenever I move the weapons change.

There is an 'arrow keys' control scheme but it doesn't allow you to remap anything! I've never known two left-handers to use the same keyboard and mouse control scheme, except for using the arrow keys for movement. Every left hander I've met uses their own preferred custom controls.
This is an utterly basic keyboard mapping fail which should have been caught in development, and for all their vaunted 'accessiblity' options this is a fundamental accessiblity fail.

Pity, because I was actually fairly impressed up until that point.

5800x3d with -30 all cores, RAM is 3600 CL16 , 3080 FE is undervolted 1890mhz 875mv

not had crash since I changed preset from ultra to high also switched off DLSS, had to use DLSS quality with ultra preset or the frames would drop too low for my liking

Thinking preset ultra was breaking 10gb vram causing crash ?

game still looks great at high cant tell the difference
