Guys disabling upscaling completely fixed stuttering for me.
I was running the game locked to 90fps before and still do and now even when it drops below that no stuttering occurs.

I’ve only played the first 90 mins or so but had a situation where I was downstairs and a bunch of AI were upstairs on a balcony in prime position but instead of using their height advantage they went full yolo and ran down the stairs toward me guns blazing.

Is AI intelligence effected by difficulty level or does that just effect their damage output ?

Not sure, I've only been playing it on the standard mode but they do react to your actions and entry to combat, also depends on the crew you're up against too from what I have seen, some are dumb, most are brutal lol (so far).

Have to say the water in this, especially at the dam area is superb, not seen natural translucency in water in a game like this before, it has actual depth and the deeper you look the murkier it gets, just like ponds and lakes in real life:

I also really like that when you get wet, water drips off you as you move, I spotted this on the PS3 way back in 2013 and not seen anything similar in other games since, at least not to the same level of detail.

The level of detail is just next level:

Look at the below scenes, the ambient occlusion is so well done, no light leakage, even under tables etc all shaded how you would expect, I can see why the GPU cost is rather high in places.

Finding it really strange... native res (1440p), I don't get much difference (in FPS) between medium/high settings, and again, it doesn't look like GPU is being fully utilised. My VRAM stays just a touch under 10GB on high @ 1440p. I'm finding 50-55 fps with drops into the 40's rather unplayable, especially with gsync on as the low refresh rate gives me headaches/motion sickness. Also feels stuttery and not smooth at all. I'm used to playing MW2 @ 140 fps/Hz with Gsync so 40-50 fps just feels awful for me... I'm not getting any crashes, even if I turn DLSS on.

What are those with 4090's seeing in terms of FPS @ 1440p on ultra?

P.S. Not sure if I'm on to something here, but regardless of what resolution/settings I play at, my CPU and GPU are only being 40-50% utilised maximum, and neither are getting anywhere near being hot... and no, I definitley haven't set a frame rate cap. I just followed a youtube video covering the best settings to improve FPS, and I'm still stuck at 50 fps with drops into the 40's...

4090 @ 1440p Ultra on a stock 13900K

Native : around 186FPS with GPU usage at 100%

1440p DLSS , 200FPS with GPU at 85% so either CPU or Memory bottleneck at this point

A new hotfix for The Last of Us Part I is now live. This update addresses fixes that improve memory, performance, and more.

  • Decreased PSO cache size to reduce memory requirements and minimize Out of Memory crashes
  • Added additional diagnostics for developer tracking purposes
  • Increased animation streaming memory to improve performance during gameplay and cinematics
  • Fix for crash on boot relating to game save files

Well DLSS back on with this new patch and textures back to Ultra, played about 10 mins no crashes so looks like this is sorted now. Now they just need to sort out the fps dips that have been reported and the camera panning judder which is the same as in Uncharted - That never got fixed though so not holding out for that one lol. It's minor in the grand scheme of things though.

Nice to have ~90fps again in most places.

New patch seems to be a slight improvement actually but I've only played it for 15 mins or so since installing it. Getting 60-65 fps on ultra using DLSS (Quality), which now seems to actually be doing something. GPU still nowhere near being fully utilised - doesn't go above 70%. I worked out the in game CPU monitor is broken, Hwinfo reports my CPU as ~40% utillised.

You obviously don't have enough vram :p :D

My mouse needs more vram too as when using M+K, it's a stuttery mess but with the xbox controller, nice and smooth
Yeah mouse stutter is there for everyone I think.
For me it stutters depending on the location even on a controller.

I would try getting rtss working and see what it says. You've got 2x6 cores right? Make sure it's using both sets. Maybe if there's config file move it somewhere and see if the game makes a new one, and see how you go

Hey, yeah, I'm now using hwinfo + rtss again and CPU usage looks a lot more normal than what is being reported by the game. Something is a miss as higher graphics settings conversely increase the fps for me... and 7900X shouldn't be limiting my relatively poorer spec 3080

This latest patch had made the game playable for me again (mostly staying above 60 fps, with infrequent for occassional big drops)... untill it just crashed on me. I have not had a crash up until this point... at least it's playable now, prior to the crash at least

PS sorry, forgot to answer, yes 12 cores (2 x 6). Even tried turning off some of the cores earlier on the offchance that might have helped, but it didn't... made things slightly worse if anything.

Still no crashes, happy days!

I did a quick test with DLSS modes too, between all 3 I cannot tell any difference visually, but Performance does have higher fps ranging from 10fps minimum uplift depending on the scene. It's just like Witcher 3 Next Gen's DLSS implementation, Performance mode is just as crisp as Quality mode, so take advantage of the free framerate boost

The detail in this game and the HDR

DLSS is indeed fantastic now mrk with all 3 presets, tried FSR but yet again, it's a mess in motion and unusable with anything but the ultra preset :o

I can't be bothered trying FSR again, DLSS is that good in this game :p

Waste of time even trying it in games when we have access to dlss tbh, it's just a superior option as shown time and time again now.

wish they would fix the stutter with mouse, hate playing with controller but can't play with mouse due to the jitter.

Yeah the panning jitter is noticeable at times, other times not. It's a carry over from Uncharted PC port that Iron Galaxy made foul of. Sad time!

Just had another crash again after 5 mins into the game. Zero crashes in over 7 hours play time prior to tonight's patch. 2 crashes since...

Spec + DLSS being used?

I've got to about half way into the game now and picked up the flame thrower. It is a thing of beauty
