*** The MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) Thread ***

Someone on macrumors has seen an SSD model and its 1.5 also! some are saying it maybe to help achieve the 7hr battery life, time will tell. Something isn't right about it all.

That seems to be a custom installation though other than a BTO, from what I see. If it's a case of Apple 'flipping the switch' to enable 3.0GBPS when ordered with an SSD then I think they've completely lost the plot.

Bought my new 15" MBP from the Apple store in San Francisco yesterday - lovely machine and really pleased with it so far! Saved approx £150 over the UK price too :D

Please excuse the terrible photos :D

Mechanical drives cannot even saturate SATA I. As long as the controller (and driver) use NCQ you won't see any difference between 1.5/3 unless you're using an SSD.

If you intend to use a good SSD then this degraded controller rumour that's circulating might become an issue that Apple need to address.

Proud new owner of a 15" 2.8Ghz MBP as of yesterday! Will stick a couple of pics up later, not that anyone doesn't know what one looks like!

Also, it smells really nice :o

If you have what today is a high-end SSD and are doing intensive I/O.

I think it's more "the principle" of a needless downgrade, and future-proofing concerns, that is bothering people.

These look really nice, I am actually considering an upgrade. The problem is, my old alu mbp has never missed a beat, so I can't really warrant upgrading unless work gives me some more money suddenly :D

just to confirm, getting the Base model of the 15" will run cooler and probably have better battery life because it would be using the 9400M when using Vista, xp etc. will snow leopard come with improved bootcamp which will enable the switch between 9400M and 9600M in windows?

If you are using the 9400M, you will certainly get better battery life. However, since you said you're getting the base model 15in MacBook Pro, I hope you're aware of the fact that it does not come with a 9600M GT graphics card?

If you get the higher MacBook Pro model, it seems you can't switch between the 9400M and the 9600M GT in Windows according to this article.

Yes I know the base model only has the 9400M, I won't be really playing much games on it but seems silly not to have the 9600M when buying a laptop worth over £1000+, I just hope the upcoming Snow Leopard gives the option to switch between the 9400M and 9600M in Windows but anways I'm going to the Bristol Apple store tomorrow with my g/f sister as she's in uni so hopefully I could get the 15" 2.66 model at a cheaper price ;)

If you wont be playing many games it's a pretty hefty sum to pay just to get the 9600.
Think of what else you could buy with that saved money.
Some quality headphones, an SSD, some desktop speakers, a dock, external monitor for the lappy etc.

Just had a pleasant chat with an extremely friendly Irish girl on the Apple hotline who mentioned that the 0% finance over 10 months deal is ending today.

Anyone know if it will be replaced and if so what with? Might be time for anyone considering a purchase to get in there while the going is good.
