*** The MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) Thread ***

Ah no! I just ordered a MacBook Pro 13" with a normal HD in the hope of buying a faster and more reasonable priced/better specced SSD in it soon - can't believe they'd do something like downgrade the SATA interface! :(

I've had this white MacBook since October '06 and now the airport is playing up and I've cracked the screen (pixels are dying everywhere, there's a big splodge of black along the top), and as soon as the 13" MBP was announced I knew it was the next laptop for me, but now I'm torn between the 13" and paying extra for the 15", it's my main (only) computer so I'm torn. Really torn.

I'd go with a 15". They 13" has always seemed too small to me.

Also, you get much better audio quality versus the behind-keyboard nonsense of the 13".

Didn't get a chance to pop into the Arndale store today but i'm curious what the new panel is like in the 13" model? Is it the same as in the old macbook unibody or improved?

I think the Unibody MB's screen got a stealth upgrade near the end of its life, so I'd imagine it'll be either than one or better.

Received my MBP17 - the screen (9C99) is majestic.

Edit - Here's a calibrated colour profile for the screen. Parameters in the file name. Screens do differ unit by unit, but give it a try if you have this model and panel version.

That's kind of you, but I'm afraid it won't be of use to anyone other than yourself.

It simply refers to how the panel in your MBP reproduces colours under the conditions in the location in which you calibrated and with whatever changes were made to the panel's settings and/or the LUT.

It is done already.

You will get an email at some point confirming the details

Although the above comment is correct however, mine wasn't done and all it took was a phone call to Apple and they did it on the phone. So if you don't get a confirmation email then just phone them up.

Has anyone who ordered online recently got their order yet? My status just changed to "Shipped", but I still have an ETA of 26-29th June...a week and a half for delivery seems ridiculously long! Anyone got real-life experience of how long it usually takes once it's been shipped?

Once it hits the UK couriers, it will be delivered next-day.

Obviously, this is assuming it's coming from abroad

Are you a glossy or a matte?
Glossy. Allegedly the 9C99 panel used in some glossy speced machines is the best in terms of quality. The panels used for matte speced machines have been entirely different (not just a different layer on top).

I know just what it is. Ambient light compensation was disabled, the region of the screen sampled is essentially sealed off, and the influence of any custom software LUT is disabled before calibration. I even had a disclaimer about unit variations :/ It will be an improvement on Apple's supplied profile for the same panel.

Oops missed that thread - thanks for the link! No records on the tracking website linked to yet, but the Apple page now says it's "In transit to customer", so fingers crossed for a Friday delivery (wishful thinking perhaps!) :D

Now the only problem I've got is do I open it when it arrives...or leave it sealed til this SATA 1.5/3 mess is sorted out in case I need to return it... :(

been using my 2.66Ghz 15" for a couple of day now and really loving it, the apple store has the older refurb 2.53" for only £1079 I'm just wondering if I should have got that instead and save a few £££.
