Care to put that in some sort of short, quotable, signature size soundbite? :p
To be honest, I was hoping for top 4 this season, whilst realistically thinking we would fall a little short. However, the progress Utd have made under ETH this season after the initial first 2 games, is nothing short of a miracle. If we manage to get 4 points in Jan against City and Arsenal I am thinking we will be in for a shot at the title. Hell, we have a good chance at the FA cup and the League cup, the EL, hmm, if we manage to pass Barcelona, maybe that too.

"Man Utd will win the Premier league, FA cup, League cup and possibly the UL." ;) Droolinggimp, 5th Jan 2023

How's that for a quote for a signature. :p

optimistic? yeah of course it is, but I have never felt like we will automatically lose a game this last few months unlike how I felt over the last few seasons. I go into each game thinking if we will play Ten Hag ball, we will win (or at least come out with a draw). Looking forward to the revenge match against City) feeling a draw there and doing the double over Arsenal.

I'll be happy with top 4 this season, we still need a striker. Over last 12 months we lost 3 strikers and not replaced any of them and with Martials injury record we can't rely on Rashford and young ones.

Just to put it into context. If we beat City we will be 1 point behind them. That is if they win their game in hand against Chelsea. If we beat Arsenal we will only be 6 points behind them and Arsenal will still need to play City twice. It is a long shot but in two weeks time things could be looking a lot more rosier than simply fighting for top 4.

We are 2-5 points clear of Spurs and 7 points clear of Liverpool. Both of those teams look far more likely to drop points this season. We could lose to both City and Arsenal and still be above Liverpool and most likely Spurs too.

Of course more than likely it will go in the complete opposite direction but we have nothing to lose and Arsenal have everything.

€3m loan deal for Wout....

cheap, no risk, if it doesn't work out - no great loss.

If he gets 10 goals, great.

Gives ETH another way of playing if needed but at the moment would just leave things as they are - United are playing well, look happy in doing so, morale seems good.

Casemiro just looks better and better every game. First name on the sheet for me at the moment.

His numbers aren't as bad as people think, 174 goals in about 400 games. Just under 1 in 2.

Even if he gets 2 goals and does lots of running, that's still better value than what Ronaldo would have offered for less money, which would be in the region of 5x that amount.

Wout, wout!

I think you have to look at the trajectory, ETH is undoubtedly improving the side and we are getting consistently better at the moment. I don't feel like we go into any game now thinking we'll be lucky to get a result (except when slabhead starts).

City and Arsenal games are huge, not just for the points, but the momentum in the title race.

He is improving the side and he seems to put the team first over the big names. However, let's not forget that we spent a fortune on new players after those heavy losses. So whilst he has undoubtedly made things better, he's done it with better players at his disposal.

That's true, but the important thing is that he is also making our existing players better.

Rashford, Fred, Shaw, AWB, Dalot have all stepped up a level this season.

Its hard to argue that EtH hasn't done a cracking job so far. His issues are largely with a squad that is lacking a proper striker and a midfield lacking someone to go alongside Casemiro who can really dominate opposition teams. Squad is paper thin in certain areas as well.

Saturday is a big test and a good gauge of how far we have come. I'm confident that we won't be humbled again by City but this latest run of form is not against the best teams and we need to be able step up. For years we've had to approach games against City, Pool, Chelsea etc in a defensive manner. We will only have turned a corner when we can put a team out to attack and not just on the counter. EtH has 73% win rate which is impressive after losing 2/2 in the first part of the season, lets hope he can maintain the momentum. (I'd take a draw now)

So thing seem to be going in the right direction on the pitch. But off the pitch... What are the rumours about the club sale? Are they serious about selling up? Any serious offers made? Ratclifffe?

Don't think you'll really hear rumours about buyers until it is actually announced. They're clearly serious about selling but they also want an insane amount of money (anywhere from 5 to 9 billion have been mentioned) which rules out pretty much everyone. The company in charge of the sale have said they're targeting a quarter 1 sale but I would be shocked if it happens that quickly.

Who made that statement?

I think his handling of Maguire, Ronaldo and Sancho speaks volumes. As does his honesty and openness with the media. Gone are the toxic Jose days and the LvG oddness.

There are some people who are saying he hasn't done that much. Most people understand how well he has done.

Everyone is talking about how much stick Potter is getting but ETH was set on fire basically at the beginning of the season. I haven't seen anything like it before. I remember that interview with Jamie and Gary were on him like a rash but he has come out of that plus dealing with Ronaldo and Maguire. He has also done it in a way without throwing players under the bus like Jose would do for example.

If and that is a big if we can beat City in a straight up fight tomorrow he will have cemented his place as one of the best managers of the moment and winning silverware will be a formality. Unless the club sale becomes a complete mess.

I'm more concerned about the longer term plan/process, and the signs currently are positive in that respect, regarding ETH at least, club sale could also go belly up.

Beating City would be great yeah, but top 4 is the priority/target.
