I'm more concerned about the longer term plan/process, and the signs currently are positive in that respect, regarding ETH at least, club sale could also go belly up.

Beating City would be great yeah, but top 4 is the priority/target.

If we can beat City that would give us a huge amount of confidence for the rest of the season. I wouldn't have many concerns about top 4 if we can take points off City and Arsenal in our upcoming games. I would even dare to dream of a title challenge if we beat both of them.

Equally, another humbling could start a run of bad form.

This might be your most positive post ever :p

ETH has apparently confirmed VdB is out for the season in the embargoed part of the press conference. Man has had such bad luck. Leaves us very light for the season now.

How exactly? We still have Fred and Mctominay who can play in his position.

So if Bruno is injured you'd play them as 10's? That sounds disastrous to me. The only other option for Bruno we have is Eriksen but he's also playing regularly and has no backup. We're just very short on players right now in key areas. We can't keep playing Bruno 90 mins every 3 days, it's impossible.

Fred has always been a player who likes to play further up. Id worry more about Casemiro getting injured tbh.

Watching United this season, it feels like one of the biggest things that we have now is some players who have elite level anticipation and timing. The likes of Varane and Casemiro know where to be and when to stick and when to twist so often. Times when they have a decision to make and if they execute poorly the opposition will be through but they rarely make that mistake. It was the same with VVD when he was at his peak. He would dispossess players he had no right to stop.

Casemiro isn't that quick, isn't physically intimidating but hes in the right place at the right time so often to clear the ball, move us from defence to attack or halt an attack at the vital moment. Has made all the difference to us along with the increased belief and workrate we have this season.

The issue is that Caemiro is soon to be the wrong side of 30. As is Eriksen.

It's no surprise that Bruno is also performing better. In fact most players are.

Hopefully Varane can keep fit and we can recruit well.

I don't think thats such an issue unless he starts getting injured more. Players that rely on pace or acceleration fall off a cliff once that goes. Intelligent players go on. Modric is a prime example of a player that is still utterly world class despite being 37. His technical ability keeps him going. I think Casemiro will be similar and we should get another 3-4 years from him.

On an unrelated note, Guardiola was a massive mardy **** after the game. Talking about how well his team played and how he doesn't care about trophies only how well they play and how he hopes they play like they did today. They were off the pace, stifled for 90% of the game, had an xG of about 0.6 vs our 2+ and didn't deserve anything from the game. Hes got a squad there he has built at ridiculous expense, exactly how he wants it. No excuses.

Casemiro was at fault for the goal. He let De Bruyne out muscle him and get the cross in. I'm being churlish of course - he's made a huge difference.
Guardiola certainly has a problem to solve. Wonderful squad but there is something missing. They can be got at and Haaland is not proving unplayable In fairness United did get a bit lucky but City are not creating lots of chances at the moment and the lack of a plan B seems to be a problem.I think they are missing a bit of leadership on the pitch - DeBruyne isn't quite enough to shake them in tough times. Still after 18 games its too early to get giddy.

Great to have a team now that we can watch and enjoy again, some of that football with Ole and van gaal especially was dire, old trafford 70 minutes gone with no shots on target

I hope you're right but Modric didn't do it in the EPL week in week out. Do we have many players over 34/35 in the top EPL teams? I have no idea. Maybe his workload will be managed, but that does mean we'll still need to recruit well.

Cans someone explain this to me, or am I not thinking straight?
Fred and Casemiro are only one booking away from a suspension that would rule them out of the Arsenal clash on Sunday, as this is our last outing before the yellow-card slate is wiped clean.
Are all yellows cards wiped, for what reason?
