Answering the couple of other people that replied, being less worse than the Glazers isn't something to get excited over. Utd aren't likely to be sold again for a long time, if a sale does go through then you really should want it to be to the right person, not anybody that's slightly better than the Glazers.
So who? Who is willing to buy us and can afford us that we should be rooting behind? Saying we want it to be the right person is completely meaningless, of course fans want it to be the right person. Given we have zero say over who it is kind of limits us though.

If you're asking for a name then I can't help you but I'd suggest somebody that hasn't got a track record of running a football club terribly.

The point of my initial post was that for some unknown reason, Ratcliffe is seen by some Utd fans as being a better option than all the various billionaires or groups that have invested in football or other sports. I'm not sure there's any evidence to suggest that he is.

In an ideal world yes. In the real world the fans will be told who is buying the club.

Yea, I know fans won't get a choice, if the club is sold it will be sold to whoever pays the Glazers the most. I was simply commenting on the reaction from Utd fans whenever a story pops up linking him with the club. I'm not sure if many of them are aware of how successful he's been with Nice or the fact that he's a Chelsea fan.

Is he a Chelsea fan though. Having a season ticket doesn’t equate to being a fan it could merely be a business wining and dining thing.

I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption to make given that he's spent most of the last decade at Stamford Bridge and on numerous occasions tried to buy Chelsea.

But it is an assumption? And again buying Chelsea doesn’t mean anything other than the possibility to buy was higher than United. He’s reported to be a boyhood United fan just not a diehard United fan.

He is trained in finance and chemicals. His history has been taking failing companies using high risk loans and made them profitable. He is no doubt a clever lad but the whole point of him buying United would be to ultimately make money. He didn't buy Nice because he was a fan of farmers league football.

A state owning a club has none of this in their plans. It is simply chucking obscene amounts of money at it to sports wash it. I know United has spent crazy but it is with money they do not really have. They cannot continue to bleed money for much longer and will fall behind City and Newcastle. Not only has City matched United spending but also invested obscene amounts in infrastructure which United haven't done.

I might have zero moral compass but the world is a cruel horrible mistress and I'd much rather we were competing on a level playing field with everyone else.

Actions speak louder than words in my book. I'm yet to know of anybody that's been a season ticket holder at a particular club for over a decade that doesn't support that club.

And I'd say buying Chelsea off Abramovich was a harder task than buying Utd off the Glazers - Utd always had a price that the Glazers would sell at but he wasn't bidding for Utd, he kept going back to Abramovich hoping to persuade him to sell. Anyway, we're just going to go around in circles now I fear.

I want whatever is best for the club and that is quite possibly someone like Qatar. There are of course massive drawbacks to this, but it won't be much fun watching the club struggle for years either.

As long as people don't start defending the Arab states, there isn't much fans can do or say about it.

With the greatest respect you don’t mix in circles with Billionaires that buying a season ticket or box is considered a mere business expense. It proves very little.

Buying United was always going to be a much more costly affair. Chelsea was
Abramovich’s plaything like Newcastle and Man City are playthings. Glazers are strictly businessmen who have no affinity to anything beyond what’s in it for them.

Right now United fans want the Glazers out and Ratcliffe seems a lesser evil. The future is beyond them to predict.

He probably wanted to buy Chelsea and is a ticket holder as they, from what I read, don't they have a hotel/village complex and some other non football means of income? Maybe he sees that as a big thing for INEOS. Comparing Nice to Utd is like MacDonalds to a burger van on an industrial estate when it comes to potential revenue...

I think you're searching for possible reasons when the most obvious one is in plain sight. As I said already, we are just going to go around in circles now so I'll leave it there.

It’s also a marquee club in the financial centre of Europe. I’ll put my money on it being a business thing first and an allegiance to the badge second.
