Just use disposables myself, single blade infact there made by BIC yes the people who make biro's, I can't tell the difference between it and a top of the range gillette or wilkinson sword and there cheaper.

A DE razor will give the vast majority of people a far, far better shave most of the time. If you're happy with what you currently use then there's no issue :)

As has been said before in this thread, a DE razor plus cream or soap and brush will give a better shave and will be cheaper than other options. It does, however, demand that you have longer to spend on shaving than a BIC or Mach 3 approach.

Loving it so far I actually look forward to shaving. I orderd some Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap everyone has rated on shaving shack but forgot to order the one with the bowl. Doh

just started to give this a go, first fail was the bowl i brought to work a lather in, wayyyyyy too small and unstable :(, currently using a large t cup until i can find something better.

think i might be using too much cream to create my lather, but any less and it just doesnt seem too work, but the lather is working ok so i'll use my first lot for testing.

major problems, as with it appears a few people is around the jawline, got a serious problem trying to get a smoth shave on the side parts of the jawline working out from my mouth too my ears, tried 3 passes but still not smooth enough :(.

currently using darby blades (with the merker 34c), but got a selection pack, so i'll move onto something else once i've used the first 5 darbys up.

I like to keep a beard and moustache 3/4 days after shaving and I must say it suit be the best:D. However the problem is I don't want to grow it any further but how do I keep this beard without resorting to shaving again and waiting 3/4 days for it to grow back again?

electric beard trimmer ?, think some of them have the guards on so they only trim a certain length, if not hair trimmers with the guards should do the job i would have thought.

Do people find shaving with a DE takes longer than with a Mach 3?

I do the same prep I did with a Mach 3 (shower, scrub, wash) and then apply a shaving gel. Quick whip around with the DE and I'm done. Only thing that takes slightly longer is I always start with a fresh blade so that needs changed - apart from that I dont really find it takes any longer.

Ended up getting this with the 10% discount (thanks again!). Got the 34c.

Usually I use a Gilette Mach Power and Body Shop shaving cream. Basically ignorance is bliss. I used to think I got a pretty good shave with the above.

Having tried the DE razor, etc, I have just had one of the easiest and most comfortable shaves ever, even with the merkur blade. No irritation and I smell quite good even with no aftershave.

Usually with the Gilette, when I go with the grain, it's not as close as when going with against the grain (extra day of no shaving obtained at the expense of some irritation). The traditional shave fell in between even if I didn't go against the grain.

I was being so careful shaving that in the end, I only caught myself once on the neck and it was because my skin caught the corner of the blade. Bled a lot though! Otherwise, pleasantly surprised there weren't more cuts.

To summarise, good decision to go for the kit so far. Hope I can improve on the shaving technique over time. It may be mundane but as it usually feels like a chore, any improvement is good.

last night, i just wet my face with a hot flanel. applied the shaving cream, i think it was nivea, and just went over my face like i did with a mach 3. it was easy. i thought anyway!

Bought a wilkinson quattro titanium precision and tried it out yesterday, much nicer than my old mach3 and it doesn't even vibrate, very clean shave and very close.

Also tried out some of that mint + tea tree shaving foam, face felt all tingly afterwards but not in a bad way :)

It does take me longer, yes. I can shave in the shower with the mach 3 and zoom around my face in a few minutes and that's doing three passes. The DE shave takes longer as I'm more careful and less hurried, and I'll step out of the shower to use the mirror to see exactly where I'm shaving. It's far more fun to shave this way but there are those mornings where the quick and dirty mach 3 shave kind of has to do.

I bought a Merker 38C after reading this thread a few months ago and I would never go back to my disposable razor. My beard grows quite quickly and I am very impressed with how close I can get with my Merker.

Feather blades make me look like I've been shot head first out of a cannon through a razor wire factory.

Haha I have the exact same problem with the feather blades. I have tried Derby, Feather and israeli blades from the shaving shack and so far and out of the three I prefer the Derby Extra's. Does anyone have any preference or suggestions on razors blades that I should try? I see that someone suggested the Astra blades earlier in the thread? Perhaps some Merker blades? Has anyone tried these?
