been using my Merker 38C for about a month now, with some darby blades, still working on getting the area around my chin right, no matter what i do it always feels a little rougher than the rest of my face after i've finished.

will be moving onto some other blades once the pack of darbys have been used, and see how they work.

I use a Merkur with the darbys on my chin, its usually a finish I'm satisfied with, and a Gillette mach3 on my legs which is the only one I've been able to not cut around my knees with (they're knobly).

when i check it , its like the blade just wont take off the last bit of beard, i've tried just going over the chin area 1/2 times more than the other areas but it doesnt make any difference, it still feels stubbly :(.

tried working the blade across the area from various angles but it just doesnt want too go, starting to think i've just got a weird shape chin

Been using my Muhle and a combination of Derby, Israeli and Feather blades (find feathers the best) for a few weeks now, decided the other day to try with the shavette (straight blade) - quite a bit more irritation/blood/rash but I could see myself getting getter with some practice - just takes 100% concentration to not slit your throat by mistake!!

Aye I don't use the merkur on my legs cause I just get cut happy.

I know what you mean about not getting the best shave - I don't get it immaculate as I'm too sick of cutting myself (which I do a lot).

When I used to shave* I did it thus:

-use very hot water on my face and neck
-shave with a manul razor
-apply aftershave

* I've now taken to keeping trimmed stubble, as it annoys managers in the office :D

I've been through the whole DE phase, to be honest unless you have really quick growth, you will find a Mach 3 is a lot less time consuming and that you really dont need a DE razor.

if however you do have time and do like to feel as if youre still 10 years old and never grown a hair on your chin in your life, you may as well go the whole way and invest in a good DE razor (i got a merkur from mankind.co.uk which has adjustable blade levels depending on how much stuble you have) some GOOD razor blades (i recommend feathers, but beware these japanese ones are SHARP) some good shaving soap or cream, a good brush and a shaving bowl. This can cost up to £500 depending on good you want the products, but in the long run it will save you money.

I've went back to the Mach 3 now because i got bored of the whole lathering process and I didnt have that much stuble anyway :p - i could spend 10-15 minutes shaving with my DE, but less than 3 minutes with the mach

I've run out of my Truefitt and Hill cream and now fancy trying something different. Anyone got any experience of Proraso cream? Seems a damn site cheaper than the London brands and wondered if it's worth giving it a shot.

I went back to the Morrisons X5 and found that Hybrid Shave Oil from King of Shaves is excellent for me. I've tried cremes, soaps, gels, foams and oils, but this King of Shaves stuff is easily the best.

Shaving now takes me a few mins, is close, and best of all I get ZERO razor rash and no nicks or cuts. The Panacea that I thought DE would bring me I didn't get. I got it with Morrisons and KOS Oil !! :)

I went from the more expensive (T&H, Trumpers etc) before trying out Proraso and yes, it was because I was of the belief that more expensive was automatically better. Proraso quickly changed that mind set.

Yes, it's exceptional value but more importantly, I now choose it over and above the more expensive creams because of what it does not what it costs. It's simply fantastic and is rightly raved about on the better shaving forums. Double it up with the equally preposterously cheap pre/post shave cream and you have a winning combo for less than 15 quid which will prep the beard, allow you to shave, and then do a great job on post-shave prep.

Try it and I guarantee it will figure in your shaving roster. It's just too good to ignore. The only downside is that you may go off Trumpers, T&H etc :(

Main attraction to the London names was the scent really (that and going into the shop in Piccadilly feels a bi more special :)). A lot of T&H stuff smells great and is very refreshing on the face. That's the only thing I'm struggling for info on the Proroaso for. I'll give it a shot anyway, too cheap to ignore really. I've still got half a bottle of T&H lime post-shave stuff but I'll give the proraso balm a go after I've finished it.

Are there any different scents at all? Only one I can find is this one:

Doesn't say much about what it's scent is though.

Scent, If there is anyone who has not smelled this stuff yet I would describe it as a weak Noxzema. It is not overpowering but it does wake you up. It is a very clean scent. It also fades fairly quickly so you do not have to worry about smelling like Noxzema all day. That being said, there are bound to be some people who do not care for the smell, therefore the 9.

The scent is strong, but smells good and clean. It certainly makes you think of Vick's VapoRub. It doesn't last long and lets you layer ASB or cologne without worry

This intrests me slightly, I suffer from shaving spots and I have to shave everyday because of my job.

Now, I wouldn't mind trying this in a hope it will stop it.

What do I need?

HD 34c?

Soap?

Brush?

Oil?

Could someone link me some stuff.

Don't really want to spend a fortune.

I use a merkur razor and blades and some Elemis Shave Gel.

How much you spend on the razor is up to you, but the Elemis Skin Smooth Shave Gel will cost you about £19. It is brilliant and I have never had any rash or irritation after shaving, its also a lot quicker to apply and I find I can shave as fast with a DE and this, as I could with a mach 3.
