Another thumbs up for the Merkur 34C and Mitchell soap that 'hyper piper45' recommended.
I'm still a beginner, but I've been told that the 34C is relatively forgiving compared to some razors. Shaving Shack is a good place to shop as you can also receive free blades for orders over a certain amount (which you would qualify for).

Brilliant, you won't look back I promise you. As people have stated, there is a learning curve, but I've found every shave is better than the last one.

Yeh I imagine it will take some time. Orderd the cream for cuts aswell lol. I have this wierd patch of hair on my right side under the chin that goes a different direction to the others always needs shaved sideways or it doesnt cut. :S

You want your container to be really really hot, and the brush to be wet, but not too wet. I fill the sink up with the hottest water I can from the tap and I put the brush and cup in it while I shower. When you are ready to start, empty the cup out, and give the brush 1 or 2 shakes to remove most of the water, but not it all. Put the soap in the cup (a pea sized amount should give enough lather for 2-3 passes) and start mixing. With a good soap, it only takes a few minutes to get to where you need to be

Might be where I've been going wrong. I've just been putting it on the end of the brush and then the brush directly on my face. I tried using my hand as a cup too but that also failed haha. Looks like I'll have to add a cup to my shaving setup!

Anyone have or know of a voucher code for the Traditional Shaving Company. Think I'm going to order a starter kit at £47 tonight! Bit much especially as I've never had a DE razor before but fingers crossed, I won't regret it.

I used to use Mach 3/Fusion razors when I was in the army (and had to shave daily) but nowadays I just use those 3-blade disposables from Gillette when I actually shave once a month. I mainly use my Philips beard trimmer with vacuum thingy :D

That's exactly what i use these days but i've moved from Derby to Feather blades. Can't complain at all, the soap is great and despite having it for 2 months now i haven't even made a dent; it's going to last for ages.

Well chaps after reading this thread and after having yet another horrid shave yesterday I am taking the plunge!

Traditional Shaving have a nice starter kit with derby blades and I am ordering some feather blades as well.

I've soap and it's fine. it came with a sample of cream too so not sure if I'll go cream next time.

Just use disposables myself, single blade infact there made by BIC yes the people who make biro's, I can't tell the difference between it and a top of the range gillette or wilkinson sword and there cheaper.
