wow you guys taking shaving seriously I use a multi trimmer thing from Asda on #1 once a week!

Could do with a good razor though, is it the Merkur 43C people often recommend on here? Also has cheap blades doesn't it?

its the 34c from what I can read on here, but it seems to be out of stock most places and I'd rather buy the lot at one shop to save on delivery costs :D

*edit - Just ordered the 43c Basket minus the almond soap plus an Alum block - heres to hoping I don't slice my face off

Anyone recommend a decent electric shaver to keep a short stubble? Around the £30 mark would be lovely but could probably go higher if needs be. Read so many mixed reviews on the web would be nice to get some first hand opnions.

I use a Remington Barba. Though it is technically a beard trimmer, you can set it to grade 1 which is stubble. I keep mine at 2 myself.

I've bolstered my collection somewhat and bought some Palmolive cream from Tesco, which was okay but smells like cheap bubble bath. Some Proraso menthol cream from Italy which is really nice for the summer, along with some Erasmic from Jordan, which is okay but smells a little synthetic to be honest.

I also bought a 1964 Gillette Slim Adjustable off Ebay. Can't wait to get my hands on it as its mint, boxed etc. Still holding out for a Fatboy. :)

Be prepared, some folk who make the switch to/from a fatboy and slim wind up only liking one for it.

As for creams/soaps you can buy better, there's a good reviews section on b&b that should wet your appetite.

Got my 2011 muhle r41 a couple weeks back. This is not for nubs, heck some experienced shavers are getting cut up.

But once learned you will find some staggering shaves from it.

I can get a 1-2 pass bbs from a fresh blade with 3-4 days worth of growth, it just mows down whatever is in front of the blade.

Going to try a decent razor, Gilletes cost a bloody fortune. Useless after one or two shaves and the head is so blunt you can never get the edges. For my head, just use a pair of clippers - whatever is on special offer when my previous set breaks. Current set are Nicky Clarke branded I think. Were cheapest in Boots.

Yeah so i hear. I'm not expecting it to be even as good as my Merkur 34c tbh but have bought it more for collection purposes.

Once I've got two vintages I may buy something modern like a goodfella and will call it a day there, well for razors at least. :)

I have a 34g and love it, i have a gillette bostonian and find it a bit less aggressive than the slant, but it's far better built and smoother for it.

The fatboy will be a nice addition to the slant, try it on 7 though you can go up to 9 i still managed to get a decent smooth shave from it.

Nowadays i use silly aggressive razors with a mild blade, seems to work best for me.

Well, I didnt do too badly, only a small bit of blood on the upper lip, absolutely wonderful shave, absolutely lowed the Almond shave cream too.

I shave with a small pair of very sharp scissors. Might be weird, but I just prefer it to shaving with a razor. Means I'm never clean-shaven, but then I rarely want to be.

I like to think that's the way real men should do it (as opposed to just the way that some weirdo like me does it...)

I've tried it four or five times. Every time I've cut myself 3 or 4 times, feel burning skin afterwards and no where near a closer cut after 3 ways, especially on the chin.

Went back to cartridge razors.

I only went with a two pass this time, next time I might try a third if need, but even that was much better than the Mach 3 turbo plus extra elite ********.

Real men use a machete:

Did you try and lop it all off in one pass? DE shaving is best done is several passes, with absolutely no pressure and a good blade angle.

I bought a DE razor a few years ago and gave up for the same reasons. Its takes a good few goes to improve and you'll probably have to relearn some bad habits, but it is worth it.

Try this is you're still willing to give it a bash.

What do people think of personna blades? It's nearly time for me to stock up on razor blades and some shaving cream again and looking for the best deal seems to be a choice of 200 personna blades for £15 or 100 israeli blades for £18.50. Obviously the personna blades are best value for money, but what is the quality of the shave like?

Also, anyone got any recommendations for a shaving cream that helps stop razor burn? or any tips in general to help stop it.

Thanks.
