Cheaper blades, closer shave, one blade which cuts down on razor burn.

Proper mans shave as well so you can sit in the pub and claim to be more Alpha than the knobs using FusionProGlideGillette9bladeshavesystem :)

Further question: If I use one, am I going to accidentally slice my own head off?

I've recently switched Vonhelmet and was worried about the face slicing malarky too.

What I found though was because I was worried I shaved with more care, meaning no facial chunks missing and a darn close shave!

In case anyone is in London tomorrow, Truefitt & Hill are celebrating their 206th anniversary and are doing hot towel shaves for 1p all day tomorrow. I got the Email as below, so if you're around it may be worth a visit. :)

For more than two centuries, Truefitt & Hill has celebrated its anniversaries in style and 2011 will certainly be no exception.

On Friday, 21st October we will be rolling our shaving prices back to 1805 and our 'one penny shaves' will make a comeback for one day only!

So join us for a glass of Champagne, have a penny coin ready, and expect to receive the best hot towel, traditional cut throat shave money can buy from one of our Master Barbers, while Lord Nelson himself will be overseeing the celebrations!

If you're anything like dmpoole probably.

These razors are quite heavy so you don't need to put pressure on like you do with cartridge blades, let the weight of the razor head do it's thang.

If you have a look on the tube of you there's a Yank that tells you have to shave properly with the DE razors (geofatboy I think his name is) The "3 pass" :o system works well and is the closest shave I've ever had.

It's all in the prep in my opinion, having a shower or bath before makes the world of difference but if yu don't have time just whacking a hot flannel on your face for a couple of minutes does the trick, keep it all nice and moist ;)and use a decent cream/soap and you're all good :)

Say i wanted to trim my 'beard' (hey, i'd like to see you do better when you were 17 :p), what would be a good way to go about doing that? I could use a Remmington Titanium 970, which has a sort of pop-up trimmer, as far as i can see there's no depth gauge so is it a case of one size fits all? Or are you supposed to use it with a comb? How would you do that anyway? Thanks :)

Sorry I'm clueless mate as I don't use one. :o

You could try the babyliss itrim, heard good things about it.

I have a pair of Wahl hair clippers which I use for over my head. I've used them in the past when keeping facial stubble trimmed. They come with 4 clip on guards to vary the length of hair or you can use them without the guard if you like short stubble. there might be more beard specific clippers but I've found those ones worked well if you like the stubble look.

If you have hairy eyebrows you can put the no.1 guard on and that keeps them tidy looking as well.

If you must use clippers, then grab yourself a wahl super taper.

Built like a tank, and it slows down for no hair.

Think old school barber clippers.

Just bought 100 Astra Superior Platinum blades for £7.99 from the rainforest. A bit of a gamble as I've never tried them before but I thought it was worth a punt at that price.

Thanks for that, reassuring to see that they are decent at least!

I did a bit of reading before pressing the buy button and decided to go for them because they are apparently smooth blades so they should be good for a beginner.

Speaking of decent I've got to give the Gillette Black Beauty that I found at my parents place a go at some point.
