I had my first shave with my Merkur 34C tonigh. I had the razor, badger brush and alum block but will be using up my existing shave gel.

Using the blade the razor came with I went downwards first, then ear to nose and then nose to ear. I found the jawline awkward and went against the grain on the neck.

Baby smooth now, can't stop stroking my chin trying to find stubble. I can see the little sting from the alum block getting addictive!!

The only that keeps me shaving is this annoying patch/silly part just under the left side of my jaw. I currently use a Wilkinson's quatro. We have an old, safety cut-throat but im kinda scared to use it lol. I just use soap rather than shaving gel though.

First weekend with the new Razor, a Merkur Futur, and the difference is incredible. Looking into a few more bits and pieces to finish things off. Been looking at a stand and bowl to make things a little easier, and trying to work out if theres any real difference between these -

and

I've also only got shaving soap at the moment, and while it seems to do the job just fine, is it worth trying some shaving cream, and also pre shave oil?

The second one doesn't list being compatible with DEs is the only real difference. The bit for the razor might not hold the head right to work. I like ceramic bowls but they do have the down side of being likely to break if you drop them in the sink.

Went for the second one, works fine and lots cheaper. Not too sure about the bowl though, may have to get a ceramic one. Also eyeing up some of the proraso pre and post shaving cream. Is it as good as the reviews say?

Also used a personna blade the last two days. How bad are they, massive difference! felt like my face was being torn apart so dont think I'll be using them again unless its an emergency.

well, i have moved into the DE realm.

Merkur 34c HD
Taylors of old bond street cream + badger brush set
selection of blades

Looking forward to trying them out!

I've used a few feather blades and one merkur blade, the feathers feel a lot better. Where can I buy the feathers in bulk for a decent price?

I had my 4th shave with a Feather blade today and my face is really sore, I assume razor burn from being blunt compared to a new blade. I assume they are only good for 3 shaves.

That seems to be the consensus that the Feathers don't last more than about three shaves. That's certainly what I've found. They're often three very good shaves, love Feathers.

I'd be interested in where to get bulk blades too.

I've heard of people trying it. Can't say I'm tempted. Might be okay on a warm winters day, I don't fancy it in November though!

Just trawled through pretty much every page , and as a man who has to be presentable every weekday, and with sensitive skin, I am buying me one of those Merkur's! I've tried various different types of disposables, and never thought of a DE razor, despite my father being of the brush and shave generation. Thanks to all

Was this a masochists forum?!

It was on B & B

I have a high end philips electric shaver at the moment. It's never been close but does the job.
These days though, I'm on a high protein, high calorie diet on orders from the doctor and I'm needing to shave twice a day!

I'm gonna take the plunge and get a merkur razor 34C and some good cream and finally at nearly 24 shave like a man! :p
