I ordered this, you get a pack of 5 blades to start you off. But before spending moeny on it i would advise you to go to your local barbers and get a wet shave to see how it feels compared to the gillette.

You'll probably find local barbers that do 'traditional wet shaves' but have no real training or experience in using a straight razor, so you may find they're not that great.

General consensus, get a Merkur 34c or Edwin Jagger DE89, watch mantic59 vids on youtube and never look back. Be prepared to spend the money you save on expensive balms and other luxury items though. ;)

Also got some Bluebeards Revenge shaving cream.

LOVE my Futur
would never go back to any other razor.

Just been looking at the growth pattern on my neck..

the very bottom grows upover for about an inch, then it grows in from sides to centre.. then above that grows downover. lol

Mine is the same grows in like 3 directions! Pain in the backside!

I recently purchased a Merkur 34C HD, a shaving shack badger brush and a set of Feather blades amongst a few other things to replace my trusty Wilkinson Sword Quattro razor.

I'm the close shave I'm getting using the Merkur 34C HD but one thing that's letting the whole close shave experience down is I seem to be getting groups of large red bumps that look like spots or ingrowing hairs. Is this because I'm now shaving so close and the hair falls under the skin causing it to ingrow?

My technique is as follows:
- soak badger brush in glass of hot water whilst having a shower and place Merkur 34C in sink with hot water,
- dry off from shower, wet face with hot water and massage shave oil in to face,
- remove excess water from badger brush and foam face with shave cream using the badger brush,
- shave with the weight of the razor doing the work,
- wet face with cold water,
- rub over alum block,
- moisterise.

I'd loath to go back to my Wilkinson Sword razor but I never had this problem with any of my previous razors :(

Any one have any recommendations for someone with sensitive skin? I currently only shave once a week, as if I try to shave ever 3-4 days, my skin will get irritated, spots, cuts, rashes, dry skin etc.....

What it means however is by the end of the week I start looking like a tramp!

I was thinking my solution would be to get an electric shaver? Not a cheap one tho, as I have had those in the past and they where terrible.

Any one have a recommendation of an electric shaver for some one with sensitive easily irritated skin?

This shaver is currently on offer £200 in Boots.

But is this going to solve my issue? No point me spending £200 on something that doesnt do the job.

What do you use at the moment?
I have sensitive skin, the tip is to use a good razor and some decent soap. Don't use any canned stuff, as the propellants are bad. Get a DE razor and some good soap, electric probably won't make a difference.

Just been reading a few pages of this and think you have convinced me to ditch my Gillette Fusion Power for one of these Merkur type shavers. I also shave my head so I get through a lot of blades which atm is expensive. Just hope this works on the head as well as ppl say it works for your faces?

I wet shaved the other day for the first time in years. The day after I had a red rash which deeloped into small white spots. They are now gone and rash is going away but its still itchy

How do you stop this? I used Gillette gel, Gillette Fusion shaver and hot water

Babyliss shaver/beard trimmer all the way

(I wash face with face wash first. Then shower) - But due to sensitivity oly shave once a week. My dad shave 2-3 times a week!)

I use gillette fusion razer and some gillette canned foam for sensitive skin.

Whars a DE razor and what do you recommened as good soap?

Merkur 34c is a decent razor, head over to amazon for soap. I have only been using a DE for a couple of months and have been using cream from Lush. Got some soap on the way though, which I think is the one on Amazon that is £7.

Could you link to it?

Also will this reduce irritation? As in I may be able to shave more than once a week with this shaver and soap?

Its not that my current shaving routine doesnt look good, its just I cannot shave more than once a week, so by the end of the week I look like a tramp!

i went straight into the deepend and bought that as my first safety razor coming from a gillete fusion. Had it a few months now. I love the look and the weight of it are they all that heavy or just merkurs?

Took me a while to get used to it after a month i was still on the first setting with doing just downwards strokes but gradually manned up and got to that 6  just doing downwards strokes then had a go at going upwards took a fair few goes to prevent myself from not nicking my self but nearly perfected it now. never going back to those sh!tty multi blade razors again. never had such a close shave and the sound of when cutting those hairs just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling :D

What creams do people recommend at current i have the old bond street avocado cream which does the job well are their any others out there that are worth trying? Also ive only tried so far the derby and wilkinson blades can anyone provide a link to get a large variety of blades or would somebody be able to tell me which is best for me as my stubble is very coarse and with both types of blades at times if i haven't spent a good 15 minutes steaming the face in the shower due to a lack of time it struggles to cut through the hairs especially moustache area and chin so am i going to be suited to a particular make or is it just trial and error?

does anyone know how to clean the razor as theres a build up of cream all of it and takes ages to scrape it off ..

lots of questions sorry :p

Thank you :D

I would have replied sooner had I remembered about this thread :p

Cheers! You are welcome :D
I have tried loads of options, the Aldi blades are cheap but good, double edge blades are the best but it takes around 10 minutes to shave and I don't always have the time.

I'd suggest a sample pack from here if you want to try other blades. Cream wise I've only ever used Taylor's, mostly soaps I've got.

Really hot water and a toothbrush will remove most soap / cream. If it still isn't clean enough then cream cleaner like Cif (jif?) works but over use might take the plating off the razor. I've done it a few times and it works and hasn't worn the plating yet but I've read it could.
