* The Metal Thread *

Big fan of machine head and disturbed here, love some metallica and deaftones also and some alter bridge when in a lighter mood. From a quick glance at this thread i think it might be a bit soft compaired to most here :)

Why oh why did it take me so long to find this thread, I am so excited!

I have been through nirvana, metallica, pantera and ended up being into hidden gem bands like Estradasphere and secret chiefs 3, sleepytime gorilla museum, spawn of possession for death metal as well as the usual suspects in the death metal world.
Faith no more and korn still have a place in my heart as well as Mr Bungle.

I have been into metal since i was 12, 38 now, seen quite a few outstanding bands, used to work for a famous metal magazine, been in a few metal bands myself (albums out there even)I can't wait to hear what you guys love and discover some new music it's all got stale for me recenly...

So ill lurk for a bit and see what you peeps are listening to

First time I've seen someone else mention Sleepytime Gorilla Museum! I'm not a big fan but Ossuary and The Widening Eye are both excellent songs. Owl in Daylight by Secret Chiefs 3 is superb too. Good taste, sir!

I'm also new to this thread, shall be searching through it, I'm always keen to find new music.

Recently I've been binging on Dyscarnate, a British death metal band who've expanded their sound on their latest album (incorporating a more obvious Gojira, Meshuggah and even hardcore influence).

And the newer stuff:

Nice to meet you, and i am now suprised there is someone who knows them, there is also the free salamander exhibit their new band if you havent had a go on that yet, fill me in with some bands !
I'll share some with you :)
Heres one, they are called Ni and are from france, here -
https://niiii.bandcamp.com/

Edit* I like the expermental ish avante garde mixed genre types of bands most, but Im also down for heavy af music that has something special and strange timings like spawn of possession, or tool, or glassjaw, or Fantomas

Started listening to more of Jinjer's tracks after initially not really getting into them. Got to say I am now really enjoying them.

I was much the same, have yet to try an album but some of the songs are excellent. Her vocals are fantastic. Musically they remind me a little of BEAR:

Used to love a bit of machine head back in the davidian days, and the deaftones will always have a place in my heart

Nice to meet you too! Just checked out Héliiphobie by Ni, very good! I'll listen to some more tomorrow. A band I think were very special and combined different genres in a pretty unique way were Genghis Tron. Their Board Up the House album is phenomenal, a cross of Botch style timings with John Carpenter sci-fi synth. A real shame they went on hiatus shortly after it's release.

And speaking of Machine Head I was a huge fan up to The Blackening, after that I lost interest with each consecutive release. I've managed to get a ticket to see the Burn My Eyes 25th anniversary show in London with the original line up (sans bassist), going with some old school friends with whom I went to my first gig, also MH in 2001. Should be a fun evening of metal, booze and nostalgia!

Thats probably my favourite album with the next being the burning red, some of the newer stuff is ok but i find i pick and choose the songs rather than blasting the entire album like i would with burn my eyes/burning red

Halo and supercharger are good examples of the newer stuff, great tracks.

As for the deftones its the same sorta story with white pony being my favorite album.

Just spent a couple of hours sorting out my running music

see a theme going on ? ;)

Are they those twerps who make their own instruments? :p

Speaking of making your own musical equipment, I believe a couple of the fellas in Car Bomb engineer their own effects pedals(iirc):

Not a massive fan of this band but I enjoy the above track. EDIT: Think it's the guitar squeals, I likes a good guitar squeal, I do. :D
