When I first heard Vildhjarta - Shiver I thought it was awesome but it gets boring very quickly I found, and the intro is by far the best part. Good song though.

e: Haven't heard of Xerath before, they seem pretty awesome.

Somewhere in Time is my favourite Maiden album as well - there isn't a song that I don't like off that album, Caught Somewhere In Time is probably my all time favourite Maiden song. The entire album really is a masterpiece!

I've got a few old bootlegs too from the 1986-87 tour, as well as a few from dating from 1982 - 1988. Your right there, Stranger in a Strange Land sounded brilliant live. I think all the songs they played off the Somewhere In Time album live sounded excellent - I love that "Walking On Glass" guitar solo that Dave & Adrian did as well on that tour, absolutely love it! The best bootleg from that tour has got to be the "When It's Time To Rock" from Bristol 1986, you may of heard of it but if you havent, you have got to have a listen! Excellent taped recording and a brilliant audience too.

Edit - here is the "Walking On Glass" guitar solo from Philidelphia 1987,

Liam

Caught somewhere in time is easily my favorite maiden song too mind you I really didn't think it sounded good live! And I have a couple of different bootlegs from that tour!

I only own bootlegs recorded in the UK as I prefer the banter with the brits from Dickinson. My fav is the one from Leicester in 86 purely because of the quality - do you have any from that tour that you think sound better? I'm all about the quality really.

I also really want to find a good quality bootleg from 82 that has total eclipse on it aswell - however the only bootlegs I found from that tour with that track were terrible quality. The bootlegs that didnt include that track however sounded awesome! Sucks!

I'll check out that track too :)

Is anyone else sick of these autotuned vocalists who sound terrible live? I was listening to Bury Tomorrow and Asking Alexandria where the production on the albums makes the clean vocals sound fantastic. Live however, is a different story.

Blotted Science anyone? Ron Jarzombek is the man!:D

:D Alex Webster is also the man! I love his bass playing. :)

Hate the vocals in that song but Webster plays a catchy bit of bass!

I think that song would have been much better if it had vocals more similar to those in this song:

You can actually understand that.

oL, you pretty much just posted all my favourites. Still enjoying Disarmonia Mundi, even though I've been listening to it loads for the past month or so.

Going back to The Final Frontier here:

Having had more time to listen to it, (hour in the car every sodding day helps!) I'm certainly got into it more. Perhaps I was being overly critical to begin with.

The intro to Satellite 15 is starting to grow on me. It's still FAR too long, could be 2 minutes quite easily but when the drums really kick in around 3 minutes, it's quite epic. Mother of Mercy's not as bad as I thought it was to begin with either. Isle of Avalon is actually damn good, one song I failed to mention before.

I still don't like The Talisman, The man who would be king, and Starblind.

I'm going to up it to a 7/10 accordingly.

Right, finally got it from iTunes as it was the cheapest option around and I pretty much agree with everything you said. Don't like the slow intros being so long - Talisman (i think) is quite bad for it, takes absolute ages to pick up even though there's two or three times in the slow part where it could easily speed up a notch. One thing I'm missing is Dickinson's higher pitches but I guess that's to do with his age?
Since their come back Dance of Death and Brave New World tie in for 1st place, Final Frontier is second but at a long stretch, and Matter of Life and Death is far far behind - really can't get used to it.

Unrelated - now waiting for Blind Guardian's new album to arrive. Apparently it's way better than Twist in the Myth.

EDIT: Just arrived :D Can't judge the whole album by one song but Valkiries is awesome - bit like what was on ANATO and SFB.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/compact_discs/blind_guardian/at_the_edge_of_time/index.html - the top review pretty much sums up my feelings about this album.
