* The Metal Thread *

I quite enjoyed the new album. Certainly an improvement over Wrath, but personally still doesn't measure up to any of the other albums. That said was a great listen and im sure will grow on me more over time!

Now just for Tool to release a new album -.-

New tool album this year...maybe

I think the Last 3 LoG albums have got progressively stronger and they started pretty damn good with sacrament.

Went to Mastodon, Dillinger and Red Fang last night. Beast of a gig.

This year is shaping up not bad gig wise got tickets for Helmet, Meshuggah and Earth still to come and with Boris playing ATP in December I may have to invest in a ticket for that also.

SIKTH?! NEW ALBUM?!

YESSSSSSS!!!

EDIT: NeutralMilk (nice name hah), where is the ATP being held? Always wanted to see Boris live.

I wonder when this years Supersonic lineup will start to be released too...

Very interesting to hear that new Meshuggah track. Quite a lot slower compared to Obzen, reminds me of the Contradictions era.

Should be a good year for metal with Anaal Nathrakh, Arsis, Converge, Fear Factory, Gojira, Ihsahn, Tool?, Killswitch Engage (with Jesse Leach back) releasing new albums. He Is Legend reforming is good aswell but probably more rock rather than metal.

"The song is track 7 off of Koloss and it's called 'Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion'. The domain was registered by the band's manager, which implies that the 'leak' is a marketing stunt."

Also looking forward to the new Corpse album. Don't think they've put a bad album out, ever, despite being the Slayer of death metal.

Also, music dump as I've spent too many nights at work with Clubland TV on and need something completely different lol:

That new Meshuggah track is blinding, can't wait for the album.
For me they are the only metal band that really matter anymore.
Hate the new LOG though, just sounds flat to me, same old same old.
I am a fussy bugger though ;)

You're not alone, Meshuggah often makes every other band else seem insignificant.

I like the new 'Shuggah track - certainly more organic and sinister like they were saying, the drums sound rawer, vocals less processed. Got that hypnotic thing going on they do so well, should be another feather in their cap. I've lost interest in most accessible/commercial type metal these days and only really listen to either the old classic stuff or extreme/experimental things (see wall'o'vids above), its just feels like I've heard it all before, or it's not tickling my heavy bone enough.

Meshuggah are one of those bands that you warm to slowly, but once you're hooked it becomes a lifetime addiction, for a lot of people anyway. They have a hypnotic quality rather than head-banging appeal, at least in my case. I get the same sort of feeling with a few other bands that are completely different, such as Blut Aus Nord (black), Portal (death); they all create a sort of pocket you fall into and sway around in, a mood, so to speak, rather than it being about memorable song-writing/riffs/leads/hooks - although Meshuggah have quite a few epic riffs.

I'm also really looking forward to the next Special Defects album which Fredrik is working on, why must you take so long Mr. Thordendal!!?!?! Even when the guy is mucking about, it's godly:

25 years since the release of Scum and still an important and relevant band today. Pretty sure they have a new album out soon aswell.

Probably my favourite melodic death metal album.

I can't find the song I want but that'll do. Really underrated thrash band.
