* The Metal Thread *

Amon Amarth are the bee's knees. I've spent many a day on the bus to work listening to them thinking how much better life would be as a viking warrior, smashing skulls and spilling guts on the battlefield, always content in the belief that should I die, I'll merely join my lost friends in Valhalla for an endless party!

Instead, I'm on a metal wagon filled with barely sociable idiots on their way to an 8-hour-a-day death sentence.

Yeah, I can relate to that, life can make us all feel trapped/imprisoned at times, great thing is our minds/imaginations are always free to wander. Been on that imaginary battlefield many times cracking skulls and eviscerating!:o Crazy thoughts, but Amon Amarth paint such vivid pictures with their music and lyrics that it's difficult not to be carried off by it, pure escapism and a real tonic imo.

Anyway let's have some more!

Sorry about the spanish subs, good vid and sound though.

I remember this lot from the 80's! Didn't realize they're still at it! One of the catchier songs off 'Razor Back Killers' (2011). Good album imo.

For anyone interested - I'm sure some will be - Meshuggah are playing at the Concorde 2 in Brighton, April 19th. Not only that, but they are being supported by Animals as Leaders!

All for the sum of £15.

Completely not getting the Messugha love - is there something wrong with me???? (Is it some sort of joke?)

+1 for Napalm Death though.

I felt exactly the same untill I read a youtube comment saying headbang to the cymbal. I think the timings are just so crazy it does take a while to get into!

I don't understand the love for Amon Amarth, I find them extremely boring, seems to be the same formula for many years.

When it comes to 'Viking' Metal Einherjer are my thing, very unique and No song really sounds the same. Great melodies

Possibly my favourite song, the riffs and drumming get me going.

Loving the production on the new Meshuggah album (at least the one track anyway). Didn't like the overly harsh, screechy sound on Obzen, was painful to listen to even at relatively moderate volumes.

The problem with Amon Amarth is they're just too po faced, they just take themselves far too seriously.

This is probably a problem I've got with the whole genre though...

Little clips of all the songs on Amazon's page for Koloss (the mp3 album page rather than the CD one, I think).

Some of the tracks seem... dare I use that word... epic.

Yes, they're terrible quality though :p I only listened to a few, don't want to spoil it.

Album "trailer":

Love the sound of the song being played on it :o

Discovered these guys last night. Pretty good:

Also, think this band could be the next big thing (think Asking Alexandria) [Warning: Quite sweary]:

And lastly, epicest song I've heard in a while:

After 5 hours of Meshuggah with Super bass on my DFX, my bowels finally moved.

EDIT: new Orange Goblin is always welcomed, never been able to catch them live.

Last time Meshuggah played in Brighton my mother wasn't well so I looked after her. Not really a fan but slightly tempted again hmmm

Agalloch (really want to see, lone wolf mission) are playing a few days earlier in Camden but due to previous experiences in Brighton I've had to walk back home (10+ miles) ****ed and battered up. On one occasion I fell asleep at a bus stop on the outskirts of Shoreham but woke up in Shoreham town centre at a bus stop. I felt my backside and it wasn't sore so I can only guess I was so drunk that I walked the wrong way.

Could see both but really want to see Agalloch but I don't want to miss the last train home because I smell of BO/sweaty.

Not sure if this has already been posted but Uk metal band 'Savage Messiah' are giving their album 'plague Of conscience' away for free @ www.earache.com/savagemessiah. Old school sounding Metal/thrash, very good quality, great riffs and melodies throughout.

One of the more epic sounding tracks off the album, but there is a good mix of fast and mid-paced songs.

Thrashier.

One of the members explains why they are making the album freely available.
