lol you think ???
A Zalman passive should do the job as its a decent size, but these chipsets do get very hot.
I fitted a passive HS from an old dead via chipset board .. it was the same height as the standard one, and I can tell you, it got very hot .... luckily I have an x800XT-PE which I fitted an artic cooler too, I had to modify the artic cooler to clear the chipset stock cooler, which involved cutting and blanking the AC case, I removed the blanking plate and the AC now cools the chipset and graphics card very nicely :D

I have a x800 pro vivo and artic cooler and it deffo blocks the northbridge fan, so no zalman for me.

Also i notice in my tray icons is 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon. When i click it, it says its safe to remove my sata harddrives. I'm guessin this is wrong since windows is on one of them. Using the drivers that came on the floppy with the mobo.

Think we all get the Safely Remove Hardware icon, you can hide it by right clicking on your taskbar>properties>custimize>select safly remove harware>always hide. out of sight out of mind.

Isn't there an option in Device Manager that can be switched between "Optimize for safe removal" or "Optimize for performance"? Don't use SATA atm so I may be wrong (but I do recall seeing something to this effect on another forum).

I see that, but according to thread..
The instructions on how to remove the "safely remove Hardware" icon does not work! I even rebooted and its still there. Its set to always hide but still shows up in system tray

Could try this at your own risk!

Your sig is too long mate, 4 lines max allowed only, I'd change it before a don wanders by and gives you a ticking off.

hmm... i had the lovely 'windows sits there for 30secs before splash screen' issue and in the end i had to install the nforce 6.10 beta drivers then uninstall and revert to the officail 5.10 drivers. that fixed it for me. having installed those 5.10 drivers my sata remove icon is no longer there. these weird issues can be a pain!

I never got around to getting the Northbridge Sink as I tried using another SATA drive power cable attached to my Enermax Noisetaker 600W and it fixed the problem... and everything was running beatifully smoothly... I installed winxp, no problems.. installed all my software... played games.. I worked on my 3d projects... came home from work today and switched on now the mobo appears to be completely dead

I took everything out except my OCZ RAM (x2 512MB GOLD REV2), My Zalman 7000CU. Tried a Antec True 430W Power Supply that worked before I tried it on the Neo 2 and nothing... tried it in my other computer along with my Antec and it works... So its not the PSU... I even tried using the switch from my other case to see if it was that but still doesn`t switch on...

Do you think it`s time to RMA now?

Do you think this incident amy have harmed the other components? (I have no way of testing them)

Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated....

Hi people... just spent the last hour reading through the whole thread... good stuff from everyone thats contributed!!! I have a problem with my neo 2 and i was wondering if anybody can help. Heres my setup first:

AMD 64 3200+ winnie
MSI Neo2 WIFI
1gb (2x512mb) GEIL PC4200 ultra
ATI 9800 Pro
160gb Samsung spinpoint
NEC 2510 DVD-+RW
Watercooling
380W Antec Truepower

My temps are great... 35 idle, 42 load. I'm not overclocking (yet).

Now to the problem - my computer keeps randomly freezing. I don't have to be doing anything, it will just freeze as and when it wants to. I have disabled fast write etc in the bios, and reinstalled windows. I just can't find the problem though... Please help or the computers going out of the window!!!

2 things look a possible prob there to me Chet84,

1/ try it without the NEC dvd drive in .. I seem to recall those may be a problem/conflict ... but not 100% sure ..

2/ I had a 380w Antec, and it seemed a a bit underpowered for the Neo2, so thats something worth considering, although that never caused me to lock, it did have problems powering my 5 usb devices.
