The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

I know exactly what you are trying to do. I also wanted to do the same. My previous setup had a Hercules sound card in it, complete with external box which would allow exactly this. Headphones could be plugged into the box, immediately cancelling the main speakers. All without me needing to get down the back of the PC to swap cables.

I would think the best you are going to be able to do is to grab yaself some good old fashioned Audio leads. Stick ya head into an audio or electronics shop. Then you should be able to pick up extension leads and splitters to be able to do what you need.

In my case, I can plug my headphones into my desktop speakers - which kills the external sound. And I have an extension lead connecting the Mike to the back of the PC.

well even though this mobo has a 21 page support thread i still decided to get one, and have now realised that this should be longer :p

Damn this thing is buggy, and what idiot designer decided to put CMOS reset under last PCI

after a lot of malarky managed yesterday to run 250x10 np, decided on new windows install, sum reason wouldnt install when using SATA 3 so I put it back in SATA 1 @ stock speeds for the install, now for some reason I cant load windows with SATA 3/4 even @ stock speeds

any ideas?!?

Only thing I can say from above is dont put anything in the last pci slot - think there have been problems with it.

I've found it to be a fine motherboard provided you are aware of its quirks.

The DFI LanParty thread is three times as long. A big thread just shows interest, not always bad. My K8N has been happy since I worked out my weird PSU problem.

iammed - is SATA definately turned on in the BIOS? If yes, then no idea. There are four to try, with 3 and 4 being the best to use if you are going to overclock.

Neo2 & memory question ?

Hi,

At the minute i use an Epox 8RDA+ v1.1 with VDD MOD, barton 2500 @ 3200,
1x512 Corsair 3200LL (CH5) & 2x256 Corsair 3200LL (CH5) in Dual channel.

Going 3200 winnie & Neo2 next week, will i still be able to use my sticks in Dual channel ? like on my Nforce2.

Or will i have to make do with 512 of ram untill i can afford to get hold of some compatible ram ?

Thx in advance for any help

PS: Love to buy 2x512 of Corsair XLL (TCCD) but it's a lot of cash when you havn't got it :) Problem then of course is that i would be left with a mixed gig of Corsair CH5 collecting dust :(

Cheers for the quick reply mate, "till i went NF4" does that mean ya tried it in your NF4 setup, or you changed it when you went to NF4 ?

It works great now in my Nforce2 but will it work in my Neo2 platinum when i get it ?

LOL....it always worked, in both the MSI and my DFI boards. I just fancied a change and went with a gb of OCZ rev2 instead.

I had the chance to sell on the baord and chip (though in hind sight i needn't had bothered) so bought the DFI.

IIRC - I read something about this while researching my board. I am pretty sure it suggested to place the larger stick in slot 1, and the smaller pair in slots 3 and 4. Though not 100% sure on that.

I am pretty sure that this was read in the actual MSI manual or their site. It was pretty official wherever I read it.

ok problem with mine was it wanted latest nvidia drivers from there own site, latest nvidia ones from msi didnt work, which is really annoying

Hi all.

After having problems with two Asus A8V boards, I've installed a new Neo2 board.

However i'm having problems setting up a RAID.

The manual does'nt have any info at all on how to do it.

Could someone please tell me how to do it?

Thanks.

I haven't got mine up and running at the moment but if you go into the bios first you have to enable the the raid function, not sure what heading it comes under but if you go through it you will find one that says enable raid, then enable the channels you have the drives plugged into, press f10 to save and exit, then when it starts to reboot I think it's f10 you press or it might be f11, that will take you into the raid set up screen, highlight the drives on the left use the arrow to take them to the right side, then set the raid how you want it to be, ie, mirror, strip etc, then save and exit and you should be all done, if I can find a link to show you how to do it I will repost, but that should get you by if not.

Try here.

Multiple Drive Arrays Setup
Raid 0
Raid 0+1

1. Hook up the drives to serial port 1/2/3/4. You will experience a better overclock if you plan to do so. Put the drive on ports 3 or 4. For 0+1 1/2/3/4 will be used and overclocking will not be as likely.
2. Very first thing we will do is boot into the BIOS and go into “Standard CMOS Features”
3. Check to make sure your drive is located on what SATA channel you have the drive plugged into
4. Go into “Integrated Peripherals”
5. Press ENTER on “ Onboard Devices”
6. Press ENTER on “RAID Config”
7. Locate the “SATA1/2/3/4 RAID” make sure whatever port your hard drives are plugged into are enabled.
8. Return to “Onboard Devices” menu
9. Locate the SATA1/SATA2 – SATA3/SATA4 and enable these options.

10. From here we will exit/save
11. Upon posting you will now see the NVIDIA Raid Bios and press F10 to enter.
12. Here you will see your new drives located on the left side of the 2 panels “Free Disks” and “Array Disks”.
13. If you will be doing a Stripping or Raid 0 you should have 2/4 drives here use your right arrow key and make them both go over to Array Disks.
14. Make sure the Raid mode is Stripping for Raid 0 or if doing Raid 0+1 or Mirroring with 4 drives please make this change now.
15. For Stripping I would leave it at 64k until you better understand these options.
16. Mirroring leave it optimal or 64k.
17. Hit F7 (Finish) to create the array of your choice.
18. You will now see an “Array List”; as long as the drive is listed as healthy we are good.
19. CTRL-X to Exit. The computer should reboot.
20. We need to go directly into the bios right after the system posts.
21. Go into “ Advanced BIOS Features”

*NOTE*

When you have a serial hard drive hooked up to this motherboard and have arrived at this point you will be able to go into “Hard Disk Boot Priority”. Please go in here and you will see NVIDIA Stripe/Mirror here. Please make sure this is the top #1 option with your page up/down to select this.

22. You will want first boot device to be CD-ROM for Windows XP/2k installs.
23. You will want the second boot device to read HARD DRIVE; this corresponds to the “Hard Disk Boot Priority List”.
24. Save/Exit
25. As most of you know when you enter the Setup for Win2k/WinXP you will need to hit F6 to load additional drivers for other SCSI devices.
26. When you arrive at the “Press S” menu please make sure you load BOTH of the NVIDIA SCSI/Storage drivers.

This means you will load "NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVE" hit then hit S again and select "Nvidia Nforce Storrage Controller" hit

You must do this step or windows has no idea what you want it to search for in regards to possible storage space.
From here you should be able to complete the install of Windows XP/2K fine. You can go into the bios and make “hard drive” first boot if you wish now.

UPDATE

If you are going to use this motherboard with a raid array of any level with Windows 2k, It must be Windows 2k SP3+ or windows install will see only two seperate drives. You will need to create a bran new win2k cd on a differnt comptuer and upgrade the install with SP6 if you wish to use a bootable raid array!

Incidentally, a new BIOS (v1.5) has recently become available for the NEO2. Apologies if it's already been posted but I can't be arsed ploughing through this entire thread!

Oh, and has anybody actually managed to get cool n quiet working on this mobo? I've followed all the instructions to the letter and yet its not working (or at least its not working in the way AMD suggest it should).

;)

Yeah, just so you know. The new BIOS is appearing on the new boards already. Mine is less than a month old, and it came with 1.5 installed.

As to "cool n quite", I ain't touched it as I am planning to overclock.

Yes, works fine for me. You need:

* CnQ turned on in BIOS
* AMD processor driver installed
* Minimal Power Management selected in Control Panel > Power Options

Have you done all those?

yeah, I've done all that. Have you installed the MSI Corecell software (or whatever its called?)? How can you tell it's working? AMD suggest you bring up system properties and look at your CPU speed. When I do this it's always at 2.01Ghz, which suggests its not working?? Or am I missing something?

Ta!

;)
