The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Is this board Venice-ready out of the box without a BIOS update? I say this because I've just taken delivery of a Neo2 plat + AMD 3200 Venice core CPU. I don't fancy building it only to find out that the mobo doesn't support venice CPUs without a BIOS flash.

Can anyone help me clarify this, please?

DasFruitMachine:

Can't answer your question as you don't tell us what version of BIOS you have.

And as you need to plug the CPU in to either get a BIOS version or update it, just plug it in. Will probally be fine. ;)

Can I just ask, I have a Neo2 with all 4 IDE slots filled up (2 slots x 2 connectors), can I use SATA at the same time aswell? I dont want to buy a seperate ide/sata card and I need another drive fitting.

if so, which of the 4 SATA connectors should I use?

Thanks.

If you are not overclocking the motherboard, then you can attach 4 PATA and 4 SATA all at the same time. Total of eight IDE drives. :D

When overclocking it is worth noting that only SATA ports 3 and 4 are locked. Not sure about the PATA IDE connectors with overclocking. No doubt mentioned in one of the FAQs.

In my case I am weird... with all those available IDE/SATA connectors I just turn 'em all off and use SCSI instead. I often wonder about the cost of the wasted silicon on there... :)

Yeah, SATA 3 & 4 are indeed locked, while 1 & 2 are not.

If you are sticking with a non-overclocked box, then you are fine with the 4+4, if you are clocking then its SATA 3+4 only.

As a thought, I have had to add an IDE card anyway, so I am using both the SATA ( 3+4 ) and the full OnBoard IDE and I have one of the 4 IDE Card Ports free only.

if i get 2gb of cas2 with lower timings rather than cas 3 with higher timings will i notice a difference in battlefield 2 or any memory intensive game?

From messing with 2.5 and 3.0 I find that there is very little true difference for my RAM, in games, however, I have not truthfully gone out just to compare 2.5 v 3.0.... But, there is a noticeable difference in desktop use, with moving between apps etc when its loaded up.

Ok i read through this thread and completed the following last night.

Move Memory to Dual Channel slots 1 & 2.
Set AGP Freq to 67 ( lock AGP & PCI ) (PCI card in bottom but 1 Slot)
Change Multi to 10
Change FSB 250
Set HTT x4
Set 1.60vcore
SET Mem 2.65
Move Sata to 3&4 (Locked SATA channels)
Memory timming now 2-3-3-7

However anything over 220 FSB even with a divider (166) my PCI wireless card dies? the CPU is good up to 2.6 GHZ but PCI dies at 220 any ideas?

Also how do i set the MEM to 1T???

HAve read that Tictac bios enables 1T with a san diego but official Bios doesnt??? correct???

Im using the latest official bios........... PLease help me out thanks a lot :)
