The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

I have a question for you guys:
I have one of these sitting around with bios 1.3 on it (IIRC) now I am pretty sure this bios does not support venice CPU's.
I have bios 1.9 downloaded and on a floppy, which I prepared for bios recovery to install the 1.9 bios.
Will it boot enough to get to the screen to flash the bios, or can it be flashed with the recovery method if it has a venice installed ?

Yeah, I made the floppy as a bios recovery, so it should kick in, but I wasn't sure if it would even get to post if it didn't recognise the cpu.
Does the flash utiliy kick in even before post then ?

Its probably going to be similar to when flashing the board for the winnie, Use a single memory module.

I would recommend using the switches after the flash commands as it will make sure all the bios is re-flashed.

Make an autoexec.bat file with the commands to flash the bios incase you get a bad flash, you should be able to get it to auto flash then.

Righto chaps, so autoexec.bat now made with: AWFL833D.EXE W7025NMS.190 /py /sn /cd /cc /cp /nvmac:xnumber-from-serial-portx /wb /f /e.

IIRC is it slot 3 that the single module should be in ?

Fingers crossed ... I could order a winnie still, but we would prefer the venice as long as it doesn't cause me any (more) hair loss getting it to run ;)

I usually use the switches as follows:-

awfl833d.exe w7025nms.190 /cc /cd /cp /py /sn /cks /r

I've never had a problem with the mac addresses but, suppose there could always be the first time !

Nor have I, but as subroutine mentioned it, I thought I would play safe :)
TBH I have no idea what each switch does (apart from the mac) I am just going with what seemes to work for others, normally I would have just used the flash with no switches, as yet that has never caused me any issues (apart from when they updated the RAID bios, but thats another story).

If you read my other thread, you only need the mac address if you have had a bad flash. You use the following to flash if your mac address is intact - which yours will be ATM.

AWFL833D.EXE W7025NMS.xxx /py /sn /cd /cc /cp /wb /f /e

Can't be bothered to trail through the whole thread (obviously :D ) but does anyone know if the 2x 1gb sticks of Geil Value ram 3200 cas3.0 works on this board, mates having probs getting his to work, if anyone knows if it works, what slots does it go in.

Thanks. :)

I have a pair of Geil Value 512MB Sticks that I have had in this board and those do work.

Erm, put the sticks into the bottom two slots... Nearest the CPU.

Also this board is often fussy with the RAM as many have already said, but the site also lists some RAM that will/wont work too.

This is the link to the site, from there, you can get at most of the info you need.

He says it works fine under XP 64, just not normal XP which is odd, he tried those slots.

Thanks. :)

They have the Geil 512mb sticks compatible but no mention of the 1gb sticks , someone else on this forum has the 1gb sticks working fine though.

I have geil 2 x 512 sticks. Put them in the two slots nearest the CPU - they are different coloured slots which has confused some people. As for my geil, it needed 2.8 volts to get t1 working on my neo2.

Should work fine I have the geil value, make sure the rams in the two ram slots closest to the processor, I run at 1t at stock settings.

Just got this board with a 3000+ Venice and it came with BIOS 1.5. Now it runs ok but I am getting random lockups on the desktop. Prime95's fine (10 hours) and memtest was fine for 5 hours.

I have a 350W Enermax PSU, which I thought may be the problem, so I have a 520W OCZ Modstream arriving tomorrow!

Any idea's? is the older BIOS not letting the venice work correctly as there is not official support in that BIOS?

What a joke. I just updated to BIOS 1.9 (from v.1.8)

What a pile of ****.

It wont let me boot into windows now as soon as it loads a BSOD flashes for a split second and then it reboots.

The stupid BIOS cant remember the drives, i have to "Detect drives" every single time i boot.

Am now having to re-install windows.

Did you clear the cmos ?.

.

I went to v1.9 just now to see if I had the same problems.

Perfect.

Different layout of the BIOS screen, which got to me, but its laid out nicely.
One issue I did have previously, was that my IDE Card ( ITE8212 ) corrupted the HardDisk selection screen, and this is now gone, so the only HDs I can now boot up with are SATA and Mobo IDE, which is exactly what I want as the ITE8212 is not bootable... Perfect.

Erm, any problems for me...

No.

Specs ( for what its worth )

Winchester 3200 ( Clocked to 250fsb 4xHT CPUV=1.5 )
2x1GB Corsair XMS4400 TwinX
Rad9800Pro
Audigy 1 + LiveDrive II

SATA
C: = Raptor 36GB
D: = Seagate 80GB

Mobo IDE
R: = Pioneer 107
V: = Pioneer 109
W: = BTC DVDRW
Z: = MSI CDRW

PCI IDE ( ITE 8212 )
E: = Maxtor 160GB
F: = Maxtor 40GB

BIOS 1.9 is just fine for me. so its more than likely that you have some hardware that didnt like it, or perhaps the BIOS file may be corrupted, or even you have not updated the BIOS properly maybe?

Have you tried re-doing the BIOS?

Just as importantly... Did you clear the BIOS afterwards, and did you go into the BIOS and re-save the settings as you want them?

I resaved the options many times.

I.e. if i went into the BIOS all IDE and SATA adpaters would have "NONE" next to them.

If i detected them all, they would all appear fine, save the BIOS setting. Reboot.

Back into the bios and they all appear as NONe again.

I prefer the older layout bioses (pre v1.9)
