The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

B-Grade - well, sounds like it should be fine. If there is a tag, then I assume it is tested. And it sounds like it could just be fussy about a certain brand of RAM. (i.e. your RAM seems fine)

PS2 mouse not working - odd.

And no - you cannot just plug your old OS drive into the new machine. Mainly because of the different IDE controller XP will not be able to deal with this. It's not a simple job of Plug n Pray. You will need to reinstall XP to your new motherboard. No (simple) way around this.

just tried upgrading from 2x512mb corsair pro pc3200 to 4x 512mb....now im crashing in bf2 to a blue screen and getting rebooted...is there an issue with this baord and all slots filled?...or do i need to up the memory voltage?...whats the default voltage sinc eit just says auto in bios..cheers!

just got this board, building pc tommorow.....i heard somewhere that when i install windows i don't need to use sata driver floppy as windows will detect it if using just one sata hdd, is this true or shall i do anyway to be sure.

sorry if this is already posted but can't be bothered to read whole thread :D

Yes, Installed just fine for me.

I have installed to

Seagate 80GB SATA
Raptor 36GB SATA

Also toyed with a Maxtor 40GB ATA133 with a Serillel adapter, and they were all just fine.

Have not tried a Striped array yet, but I have another 36GB Raptor in the pipeline to do it then, but not bothered to try just yet.

yo, any one tried the latest bios 1.A? on MSI website now.

also i have a problem withthis board: i am currently on bios v1.3 about to upgrade to 1.9. the pc works fine, but if i leave it turned off for say an hour and then turn it on it wont post (monitor sits blinking orange) if i clear cmos it then works again. turn it off it stops working, have to re clear cmos etc. any ideas?

had a problem with my floppy drive, wouldnt work, so had to live update the bios :() worked ok tho, v1.A now seems ok, not tired oc yet as i havent really played with it yet, i was thinking of trying 11x220MHx with 4x HTT? what should the cpu core be at?

i currently got 11x206 with 5x HTT and 2.70volt on mem. core is default an shows as 1.360 in cpu-Z program. any ideas suggestions?

I got 250FSB x 10 ( 4xHTT ), CPU @ 1.55v in BIOS, CPUz Reports 1.45 which is normal, as this board does lower the voltages apparently, stock Mem volts, and set to 2-4-4-8 @ 1T

The CPU happily hits 298FSB at these settings, 300FSB @ +10% CPUv, but I decided on 250 a while back as this is a lot lower than its max, but also allows me a hell of a lot more should I want it.

I have only just upped to 1.9 a couple of days ago, and I had assumed that this was the latest... Its running sweetas a nut, so I am not bothering to upgrade at all for some time... The 1.9 Bios also allows the path to x2 enlightenment, which is right on the horizon for me... I promised myself the 4400 a couple of weeks ago, only to find that its not supported according to the MSI site, but now I might just have a play.

:( i still seem to have a problem with the board. The pc will not post after being turned off for a while and i have to clear cmos to get it to post.

It is not overclocked at all. I double checked the ATX power thats ok, its a 550W psu so thats ok, also checked the HD, Powe LED, Rst leads etc on the board and they seem the correct way around (according to the manual. (The writing on the plastic part of the connector are all facing up, towards top of case).

any ideas, might have to rma it :(

bios v1.a

Did you flash the Bios from dos? and if so did you use the switches after the file name ?

i.e. awdflash.exe filename.bin /cc /cd /py.......... so on and so forth ?

Try Here for full info on the switches and what they do.

Are you sure your PSU is man enough? Could it be causing the problem? Next time unplug your PC from the mains and leave it off for an hour. See if this solves it. If yes - blame the PSU.

I've jus moved my PC from one side of the room to the other (with all due care as always!) and I aint getting any POST - jus a long continous beep. Apparently this means the CPU is overheating but God knows what the hell has happened to it as it was working fine until I installed another HD and powered it up. Anyone else had similar probs?
