The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

This has been the most troublesome board I have ever had, but then again, it's been the newest technology I've ever had too. As I was rummaging through the box looking for the Neo2's manuals I had my KT7A-RAID there and reminisced of the good times, and the two flashes I did with that  :)

I have to argree this is not exactly a board for the novice but once you get to grips with it, it is probably one of the best.

i have installed 2 of these boards in the last few days and i have one myself i was telling one of my friends how most connections are idiot proof as i was putting in the speaker connector but because i now wear glasses i plugged it in the wrong place when i switched on the pc loads of white grey smoke poured off the plastic insulation i switched it off luckily the motherboard was ok...

What did you connect it to to get that effect?

which BIOS do recent motherboard ship with ?

Which BIOS do i need for X2 support and is stable?

sid

im using bios 1.bo which supports x2 with no issues..the last 2 boards that i bought which were bought from different suppliers came with the 1.5 bios

Worth noting again that the 1.A BIOS for the K8N Neo2 Platinum DISABLES USB2.0 support - roll back to version 1.9 or upgrade to 1.B in order to fix the issue - not exactly thorough testing on MSI's part before release there then!

I'm not having problems with USB 2.0 and I'm on 1.9.

Just like to add that i have setup my X2 system now

Spec is A64 X2 3800+ stock voltage
1 gb geil ultra X BH5 2-2-2-5 1T
XFX 6600GT stock
2 x 80 gb Hdds

win xp

Seems to be running nicely and stable

the BIOS 1.B added X2 support fine

Some OC'ing questions now

Whats the safe voltage for the X2 3800+ E6 on a stock cooler + AS5
Is the MSI Core center any good? i was getting temps of 30C which sounds unlikely to me??

yup this is on 2 different pcs...i know i have seen this mentioned in this section before but its too long to search through...
Slatey, did you use Live Update to upgrade the bioses to 1.B?
Only back a to page 46! (Down the bottom!)

If you did, a moment of silence please, the bioses are now dead. This is exactly what has happened to mine. There is a post on it on their forums. The boot block needs to be rewritten, and Live Update does not do that. Luckily you have access to a third board, so can hot flash them back into life. Good luck with that.

I've filled out the form for support on MSI's site and received no support as yet (its been since Saturday). I hope you have better luck than me. MSI may not be receiving any more of my custom. The phone lines ask you to leave a message... that's no good to me, I have to work for a living. They can't just call me back when THEY feel like it.

i managed to solve the problem by following this advice..
Clear the CMOS.

If that doesn't work it means you didnt competly shut the system down after you flashed.
After you flash with a 1.X BIOS you need to totally shut down the system,, unplug the PSU and clear the CMOS.
It will probably say "CHECK SUM ERROR - Defaults Restored" when you POST.
And don't enter the BIOS the first time it posts after the flash, u have to let the XXX Pool thing update, so let it load windows once before you enter BIOS.
i must add that it did take a couple of reboots after that procedure but it worked fine.

Mattus, they've had a few complaints so they've probably fixed LU's settings now.

Slatey, I've cleared the CMOS countless times, but mine won't go past the apparent end of the post. It checks the memory and drives, and just when it should display the chart of system summary and DMI info (that it normally displays for a fraction of a second before the OS changes to a graphics mode) it just sits there with an underscore cursor flashing away in the top left. <Checks referenced post> 30 seconds, huh? Hmmm. Must say I didn't leave it in that state for that long, but I'll give it a whirl. No real time to do it now, I'll try tomorrow.
