The new Arsenal Club Thread - *No Spoilers & Read OP Before Posting*

Things are looking up in regards to tieing Saka and Martinelli down to new contracts.
One thing people need to be mindful of is the hype and energy around Saka, Martinelli, ESR, White, Ramsdale, Odegaard etc, just remembering that we've been here before in terms of young talent at Arsenal and actually seeing that coming to fruition in terms of trophies. Fabregas and RvP were as good as [better than] any of these, then more recently the likes of Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere etc. We're now living in a world with more competition from other clubs so I'm a bit cautious about what comes down the road.

Ticks a lot of boxes but I'm not sure I'd be happy if he's the only forward/striker we sign, if the roughly £30mil price is true then I wouldn't complain, a sizeable upgrade on what we have. Really like Toney but Brentford will want a lot of money for him.

Jesus has the advantage of being league tested, played under Arteta, and might potentially link up nicely with Martinelli.

I'd be happy with Jesus if it stacked up financially.
In terms of buying another striker, the way Arsenal's squad is shaping up it seems unlikely we'll play with two up front. If Jesus leaves MC he will want to be starting games, otherwise he may as well just stay there and pickup loads of trophies / money. Therefore there isn't really a scenario where we can buy Jesus plus another striker.

Realistically, Jesus with Martinelli and Nketiah (if he signs a new deal) as backup is what a club of Arsenal's level should be targeting, no point wasting money on loads of strikers who won't play.

We only need one striker if nketiah stays. We need backups for playing in the league cups etc

How do we feel about the Gabriel Jesus rumours?

Prior to his haul at the weekend, I said to my old man that the rumour makes a lot of sense.

He fits the model of an Arteta pressing forward that can also contribute effectively in the build up. We've seen the attacking potential of the team unlocked to a greater degree since Lacazette came into the team. Jesus offers those battling, creative qualities whilst also being much more mobile and a goal threat. His flexibility is also important - he would offer high-class additional support in wide areas, particularly for Saka when Pepe invariably departs. That allows opportunity to bring in a second striker that will also have plenty of opportunity to contribute, perhaps of a different profile. Will be needed with European football next season, and Nketiah is too one-dimensional to be a viable option.

Deal is potentially favourable for Jesus. Chance to be the main striker at a young team pushing for a Top 4 place, regular football and in his favoured position, no doubt also financial incentives. Familiar manager etc.
