The New European Super (borefest) League

No more or less ugly than the smallest sides trying to block relegation and promotion from the PL 12 months ago. The sooner people realise that nobody cares about anybody else and they're all in it for themselves, the better. So many people act shocked and disgusted everytime these things happen and they shouldn't be, it's been going on for decades.

I tad bit different, a one off block compared to a 20 year fix. Though this may fall foul of EU sports law.

I get a feeling that had Leeds signed up to this Marcelo Bielsa would be the first to quit.
100% Bielsa wouldn't have anything to do with this and maybe Pep would see it that way as well. This Super league idea, at first I thought it was just the clubs involved getting a good bargaining position for the CL revamp but there seems too much about it now. If only there was fans in Elland Road for the game tonight they would have made their feelings known.

Based on that board members quotes from sky, the PL stand to lose little booting these teams out. The PL is not a training ground for the big 6's second string squad and fans will be insulted by the lack of dedication by the big 6 to the PL.

edit: assuming it all goes ahead

People care but FCs are businesses whose main purpose is to create profit. Maybe even some of the higher-ups in these clubs don't like it but they tow the line.

I think people expecting managers of the clubs involved to speak out in opposition to this are going to be disappointed.

60% of the revenue in the PL goes to the top 6. They have a lot to lose if they do that

Exactly
Even players of said clubs will have had a txt or something overnight stating not to post anything.

Obviously players /managers of clubs outside the SL will be free to post anything (and possibly even be asked by clubs to post if you think cynically)

You really think they will heavily punish and therefore damage their own product?

Moving to logical conclusion - its a good thing for SL club to be kicked out of its domestic league, as it then has fresher players for the lucrative new tournament , and founding members would still get more dosh in all liklihood just from that than even the PL+CL tv money put together.
(Im ignoring this 350m euros as thats a one off payment , its the year on year that is likely to be enormous)

Its significantly worse for the PL / Serie A/ La Liga etc as remaining clubs will (initially at least) attract a lot less footfall / tv viewers etc

Players will be the interesting one - lets say they DO have to choose whether they play for their country and therefore sign for a historically less significant club, or they sign for a SL and play significantly less games but dont play for their country.....

the product is going to be massively damaged anyway as those "so called" top 6 will basically filed crap teams for domestic games as they will want to keep the fitness of their stars for the big payout games. If the EPL let this slide they are basically calling open season on the integrity and rules of the league. Fans will basically get screwed because the games they get to see under the season tickets will basically be the reserves / 2nd 11. It's a disgraceful move by the chairmen of those 6 clubs, the EPL / UEFA should punish them heavilly.

The principle is the same. The bottom of the PL do everything they can to protect themselves from the EFL (which is why the revenue gap is so big and why we have parachute payments) and have shown that the moment they get the chance to stamp down on the throats of the EFL even more, they'll jump at the chance. As I said previously, it's not just at PL level, League 2 clubs tried to do the same too. People only care when they're the victim.

I wonder if players have clauses in their contracts allowing them to represent their countries.

If so, would clubs be in breach of those contracts should players be banned from representing their countries.
