The New European Super (borefest) League

What's your actual opinion on the idea? I know you passionately defend Liverpool, I see it week in week out in the football threads :p. As a passionate fan, how do you feel about the idea?

Genuine question, no malice. I only ask as it sort of feels like you even want to defend them over this? "You'll never walk alone".... "But we'll walk away from you".

I Liverpool's ethos as a club, that's why I'm asking.

I hate it and if it goes ahead I will have to consider if i want to follow football anymore. I've waited 30 years for my club to win a premier league only for owners I already dont like to come in a devalue it the way they have. This super dooper league will generate and obscene amount of money for 6 team making the premier league unwinnable for anyone but 4 clubs. I exclude Spurs and Arsenal as theyll just pocket it lol.

Yes but that's them playing their first string squad every week. Are people insterested in watchign the u23s vs Wolves / Newcastle?

Doubt it, maybe some "legacy fans".

Each participating club in the European Super League will receive 3.5 billion euros to start with, with American bank JP Morgan heading up the financial backing of the project.

The club that wins the European Super League could be due close to 400 million euros, compared to the 120 million euros that is given out to the Champions League winners each year. Barcelona, who reached the semi-finals in 2019, received 117 million euros in prize money.

As for the rest of the 1.95 billion euros in the European Super League, 488 million (25 percent) will be handed out in initial payments and another 585 million based on results.

I reckon they might be able to hoover up the talent tbh. Id expect strong second strings.

EDIT

Im not defending them. Last night i didn't know enough about it my problem was Sky and the like claiming greed whilst their pundits sit on vast property portfolios and benefitted financially when the Prem League started

Will never happen

Some of the top guys have resigned their positions at UEFA and other organisations. It looks like its on course to happen.

Whether it will be stopped at the last minute due to the reactions is still open ended. But its going to take a lot of losing face by the people who have already taken physical actions.

You might not but millions will. Anyway, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. This threat is the biggest threat we've seen but I think that's ultimately what this is - everybody will back down, compromises will be reached, the big sides will get more money & say but will ultimately remain.........I think.

Dunno, this seems like a huge gamble that they are willing to go with, if UEFA flatly refuse to negotiate now then these clubs have no option other than to push ahead IMHO because if they don’t then the credibility of the clubs is done.

Didnt I say it wouldnt happen RE the clubs being kicked out of the league tho?

International football is rubbish enough already. Take the best players out and it will be dead in the water
Tbh someone put together an England team without the "Super 6" players and it was class. Can't remember exactly what it was, but something like Pope, Lamptey, Keane, Dunk, Cresswell, Rice, Grealish, Bellingham, Sancho, Ings, Bowen. I'd choose to watch that over our current side.

They haven't yet but they're consulting their lawyers and plan to.

I can imagine players will already be consulting their agents and I really do hope players walk if they can.
I can just imagine the conversation between a high profile player & Mino Raiola or Jorge Mendez - "Do I leave Man Utd and sign for West Ham so I can play in the Euros or do I stay and sign that £500k per week contract?" I'm sure Raiola will be pushing his clients to West Ham :p
