The New European Super (borefest) League

Would be nice if 0-0 draws awarded no points to either team, and only score-draws awarded any points (or wins, obviously).

Maybe even -1 point to each team for a nil-nil.. Nobody wants to see a "defensive masterclass" with absolutely dire creativity or attacking play. Well, maybe some purists do, but for every "good" 0-0 there are 10 really awful games, where teams are just afraid to do anything. -1 points for a 0-0 seems fair to me!

That's a slippery slope. Look at Formula 1 today to see how this has gone with creating a sport which aims to please fans by artificially trying to push more "entertaining" racing. It becomes complex and introduces more and more issues and can hamper progress.

Ok, but why are you saying that?

By representatives of the clubs resigning from their positions from the boards that are responsible for making the decision, isn't it more likely to go against the clubs now?

I'm talking about the existing members of the PL not voting out the so called big 6?

Why do you keep saying this, Wenger was very anti financial doping and was against the super league when it was first mooted years ago.
It was more of a question.

i never quite got the answer to it though. i did as whether wenger was pro or agains this back then.

Looking at this, wenger warned about this

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/aug/17/arsene-wenger-european-super-league

from today:

Arsene Wenger has labelled the European Super League a "bad idea" and says he has no idea what is going on at Arsenal.

The legendary Gunners boss predicted a breakaway European league involving only the tops clubs on the continent around 12 years ago and condemned the idea then.

Now that the plan has come to fruition he is equally against the proposal, pointing out, like Sir Alex Ferguson, that the plan is disrespectful to the history of European football.

"I would say that it's a bad idea," Wenger told talkSPORT. "Football has to stay united. That is the most important thing and based on sporting merits and overall to respect the history of European football.

I don't see how that is applicable to football. It's a fairly simple idea and doesn't involve any rule changes beyond not giving points for 0-0 draws :p

I would imagine that most people find it more entertaining to watch two teams desperately trying to score - doing everything they can and busting a lung to get it done - than two teams who are pretty happy to draw with each other and aren't really interested in taking risks.

I could be wrong, of course. Maybe lots of people enjoy a 0-0 where not a lot happens :p

It's the sort of rule that'd end up backfiring in weird ways, with collusion to let in an early goal each to get 'the 1 point' minimum and then play out the rest of the game etc.

The JP Morgan trophy O_o

All for money, abandoning fans, calling them legacy fans, next gen fans based in Asia and America.

Think they going to struggle to find these other 3 clubs.

After seeing the backlash I think any other club would be stupid to sign up; I've yet to see a single positive comment in support anywhere for this

Tbh someone put together an England team without the "Super 6" players and it was class. Can't remember exactly what it was, but something like Pope, Lamptey, Keane, Dunk, Cresswell, Rice, Grealish, Bellingham, Sancho, Ings, Bowen. I'd choose to watch that over our current side.

Heck yeah, also eligible: Tarkowski, Mee, Maddison, Albrighton, Vardy (if they persuade him back), Barnes

What happens to loan players like Lingard? Would they have to be banned from playing too, both internationally and in the league? Some of those big clubs have awful large nets of loanees. It will mean they will have to sell off a lot more sooner as they won't be able to get them farmed-out and trained-up by other clubs.

Wonder who the other 3 founding teams will be, apparently Bayern and Dortmund turned it down, and you'd expect if it was another Spanish or Italian club (Sevilla / Roma) it would've been announced alongside their countrymen, so I guess you're looking at:

PSG
Ajax?
Porto??

Porto have turned it down as well.

Monaco?

I see youre thinking but they just care about the coin mate. If you say they can have 400 mil for winning the thing they will take it

It's the money. I imagine people like Mike ashley would wet their pants to join this if they were invited. If the SL gets big enough for countries to have national teams just from that pool then a new international comp will form and FIFA/UEFA will sob on the sidelines crying unfair, but if that happens, good players will jump at the SL and stuff everything else.

Probably why they're taking such a hard line with it now, they can see it evolving.
