The New European Super (borefest) League

I said the same thing last night, League One teams can hardly even break into the Championship because the financial gulf in salaries is too big and even if they have a team of wonder players "bigger clubs" will just circle like vultures and give them better contracts even if they don't play them in their first team. The strong remain strong and the weak remain weak.

It might be possible within the current structure for a League Two team to reach or even win the Premier League but in reality it's rigged against it.

We (Leicester), dropped to League one, then back to the championship, then to the Premier league, survived relegation.....Champions :)

How is it a bigger challenge though? It's just the same teams playing eachother, infact it removes most of the challenge of the prem league because nobody will care about getting top 4. It makes the whole thing pointless
I'm sure that the teams close to qualifying wouldn't mind a better chance if the bigger teams are not so keen. We might actually end up seeing a larger variety of clubs playing and winning European cups as a result.

All funded through parachute payments from the PL, giving you a huge financial advantage of those you were comepting with.

edit: I take that back. Leicester failed to get promoted during the years they were receiving parachute payments from the PL.

You did, and it was great to see.....but how often does it happen?

Even if a league one team develops their own player who goes on to become a legend, the bigger teams will buy him. The lower down clubs often sell brilliant players just to balance the books.

What??

We got relegated in 03/04. Parachute payments came in 06/07. We've not been relegated since we came back in 2014
As per my edit, I did take back the comment but hadn't realised you were relegated pre parachute payments.

edit: your remarkable rise was funded by the illegally obtained fortune of the King Power group :p

Shorter Football games???? O BOY

Take 15mins off each half leaves more time for advertising I bet
It'll be 4 x 15 minute quarters, the American national anthem will be played before every match, goals scored from outside the box will be worth 3 points and Trump will be a co-commentator. No one will care because every game will have cheerleaders.

What i don't understand is this,

Do fifa/uefa have an unfair competitive monopoly on football?

Why can't a club choose to participate in multiple league's/ competitions simultaneously?

Are the clubs being trapped by anti competitive policies if they are told they can only play in 1 league/competitions (i.e uefa sanctioned) or be excluded/punished?

I'm not for a breakaway league but who gave uefa a God-given monopoly?

In the interview, Perez also hinted at some core changes to the way games are played themselves. He believed that a large portion of younger audiences are not interested in football and attributed that to the length of games. The lack of an instant payoff is one of the potential issues according to the Galacticos’ chief.

“We have to analyse why young people, 16-24 year olds, 40% of them aren’t interested in football. Why? They say the games are too long. If young people don’t watch an entire game, it’s because it isn’t interesting enough, or because we have to shorten the games.” said Perez.

Bwahaha, the gnat like attention span of the internet generation :p

I’d say the clubs relentless pursuit of money above all has meant these games have been taken off FTA. Matches in the BBC, even with ‘lesser’ clubs have beaten viewers for any match sky sports have ever shown AFAIK.

If this super league is aimed at markets further afield (Asia and the US) I have a few good ideas:

Americans don't like low scoring games, so get rid of goalkeepers. Just have the defenders trying to keep the ball out. You may get 20+ goals per game
During half-time let the fans select the subs using a mobile voting app
Each season players get 100 credits. 5 credits to remove a yellow card, 20 credits to remove a red
Managers can trade 2 players every four months
Each season a lottery system selects one team to participate in the ESL (could be a team from the conference)
Each season a 'joker' game is selected at random whereby the players mix up the kits to cause confusion
If each team agrees prior to kick-off, the game can be played with 2 balls
VAR is replaced with crowd cheers. The louder cheer decides the outcome
Fireworks and a music show at half-time
Due to having no goalkeepers, the penalty shootout is replaced with who can kick the ball the furthest
Club names changed based on their main sponsor "JP Morgan Morons"
Once all games have been played, the team with the highest points plays the team with the lowest to decide the champion
The penalty area is renamed the 5 second area. If a foul is committed inside this space, the teams restart from the kick off spot with the offending team suffering a 5 second stop-go penalty. No player is allowed to move for 5 seconds.

It would make it more exciting!

Football has been slowly moving in this direction for decades, the difference here is that we've gone from taking 1 step every 3-6 years to taking 10 steps forward overnight.

It seems to have been forgotten about in the last couple of days but the planned changes to the CL, which have now been approved, were another step on the journey - UEFA had already agreed to give a bigger slice of the pie to the biggest sides & provide them with more security through the new coefficient qualification spots. I mentioned it yesterday, these plans were considered terrible a week ago and now they're considered to be the saviour of football.

Those changes were to please the big clubs, they not a natural footballing evolution.

I am still baffled you are defending this ****show. They cant even get another 3 founder clubs to join lol.
