***THE NEW KING - GTX 590 IS HERE!***

So to conclude, 2x 6950 flashed to 6970's in a xfire setup is still better... and it costs nearly twice as cheap? oh dear god :(

Gigabyte 480 SOC SLI for £480 is looking good compared to either 6990 or 590

Wow is that a joke? I ordered a HD 6990 or under £500 today, would much rather have that than 2 x GTX 480's

The only negative about the HD 6990 is noise, and your gonna get a ton of that with your sli GTX 480's :)

To be honest, I would rather have one of these than a 6990 (thats coming from an AMD/ATI man). The 6990 is full of faults, overheats when in XFire and is generally not what I would want from a £500 card!

Lol you clearly know nothing about the gigabyte SOC 480s, 38db they are cool and quiet and close to 580 speeds. A pair will blow the crap out of the 6990

Yeah, we need see some benches with 2x 480 & 2x 480soc compared to a 590 before contemplating a dual GPU card.
Granted, a 590 is very good & if you only have 1 PCIe slot then you have that or a 6990 to choose from for best performance.

Wow the HD 6990 is full of faults?

So ok lets get this straight..

The GTX 590 isn't as fast as the HD 6990..
if you install the wrong drivers it will melt..
It has power restrictions that cannot be removed in order to stop it revealing its real watts usage and getting loud and or melt (see above for driver issue)
All of this oh yeah and it costs more!

Ok lets move on to the HD 6990

Its loud becausce it lacks power restriction in order to hide its loudness and watts usage..

HD 6990, cheaper, faster, doesn't melt. HD 6990 > GTX 590

Thing is though, it doesn't bode well for the general reliability of the card even with modest voltage tweaks. @ 1.2v the card dies in minutes/hours but at 1.087 who knows? it might just take days/weeks.

Stock voltage is 0.975v

upping to 1.2V can be a massive leap where fine micro electronics are concerned.

The way people are raving on here, you'd think every single card is going to burn a house down the second it is plugged in :D

If Nvidia recommend no more than 1.1V, what do people think is going to happen when 1.2 V is put through it? ;)

Besides, its already been fixed an hour after launch with a driver
