*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

If all you look at is specs, yes but if thats all you care about then go buy a dell. Otherwise unless you're blind it's fairly obvious it's a major design refresh. Macbooks have substantially better graphics too...

im a graphic designer, so yea i do look at specs. i work on a MBP :p

plus the glossy screen? no matter how good the color brightness will be, its gona be a pain to use out doors when you shoot photography on location.

i dont particularly like the idea that the MBPs look like or vice verse the MBs, the Pros are meant to be on their own, not in the same catagory in looks. if thats so, Pros wont need to spend that much more to stand out from the rest, they could just buy a MB and be done with it in my opinion

I love how people criticize the prices, say they'll never buy another Apple product again and in the very next sentence say "Im still getting one LOL". Sad, sad, sad.

Ridiculous prices, you'd get an equivalent non-Apple laptop for 50% of the cost. Part of me is curious as to just how much more expensive Apple could make these things before people actually refuse to buy them, I reckon they couldve made the Macbooks £2k+ and the sheep would still buy them.

(a disillusioned MBP owner)

You're missing the point, you could buy a laptop with the same specs for half the price. You wouldn't be buying the same laptop though.

what makes it so special to pay that much?

as ive mentioned i own a MBP too, but i still dont understand why so expensive, whats so different? the built quality? well for one i actually feel the MBP feels more fragile then the Asus laptop i have next to me. when i put the MBP im scared that it might jolt the hdd, whereas the Asus lappy feels solid even if its made out of plastic

i don't like the prices, i want to make the switch to a mac and i have enough for a macbook but im looking to get the highest out of them all, i was expecting it to be about £800 but at the price point it is i just think i may as well get a macbook pro but that means i spend more which i cant afford, its frustrating!

You're a designer. What operating system are you using? if you are using windows then I can't see why you bought a MacBookPro. If you are using OS X then that explains a large percentage of the price difference imo. The rest of the cost is style, design, etc

I'm really struggling with the price, i have the cash but i'm thinking twice now :(

Spec is not too good for the cash.....

£950 for a macbook seems crazy and that the cheaper one lol.

MBP with OSX

but the material cost doesnt even come no way near the prices they should be, i mean fair enough they got to make a profit, but this is more than profit theyre asking for, theyre asking for your soul too!

a bit of topic here, but didnt they say the iphone only cost about 70£ in parts to make or even less?

This is what I asked in my thread.

I don't mind paying more than the equivalent specced normal PC laptop, but this is too much really. Plus it seems to be loaded down with loads of things that I won't use, but seem to be paying for.

All I wanted was a good graphics boost, which the MB got. But the aluminium case? I would have been happy with the plastic one.

It's expensive but people who can justify it, usually do and enjoy it.

I love every time one of these Apple conferences roll around and the people crawl out of the woodwork...

People who are objective about their purchases as opposed to buying anything and everything with an Apple logo on regardless of price and acting like keynotes are Waco cult speeches? I'd much sooner be a pessimist than a sheep.

there are some handy preinstalled programmes in OSX i have to say compared to what you get with Windows (XP, not used Vista) but still the specs arent hardcore enough to give the price.

just another thought. so why do people who already have a MBP or the latest MBs need a new MBP/MB?

surely the specs on them now are usable and not least shoddy? how extreme are you guys pushing the these laptops?!

Exchange rate conversion of US prices means the macbook should be <£750 (+ VAT). I suspect a big part of the price difference is actually apple readjusting their exchange rate calculations as the pound weakens against the dollar. When the old macbook was priced it was close to $2 to the £, now it's hovering around 1.7, doesn't cost more, just costs us more.
