*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Im a mac and windows user, i certainly know which I prefer.
Used windows for over 10 years, been a money pit personally with hardware dying all the time, yes cant blame the operating system but can blame what you need to run it. It does have its perks by being able to run on a lot of configurations, but in my experience it just craps up every few months along with some piece of hardware. More hassle than its worth.
Had problems with my macbook pro but havent had to spend a penny on it yet.
Windows isn't a solid platform though, especially XP, everyone has some problems, and a lot of people have a lot.

Just bought 3 MBP :p ;) Christmas present for my 2 bro's. And of course 1 for me :D

I'm still not keen on the looks but i think when i see one in the flesh i will fall in love no doubt. Look forward to delivery :)

DDR3 is largely pointless atm, especially on a mobile platform. So my point stands.

The fact Apple has chosen DDR3, is ridiculous, hopefully the MB is still DDR2 compatatible.

DDR3 is the future. Most of the Centrino2 equipped PC laptops are going that way too.

Macs are fine on 2GB. OS X is much less of a memory hog than Vista and makes much more efficient use of the RAM.

PEBKAC

Windows is a solid platform, if it wasn't the majority of businesses wouldn't use it. Though I don't want to turn this into a Windows vs mac argument, just get sick of Mac people thinking their side is all roses.

I first posted in this thread because I liked the look of the new MB, regardless of software. Let's try and stay on topic?

Spoken like a true n00b. lol. DDR3 has no advantage at this time, as I said. Though I guess you believe anything Apple spews.

Your memory requirement figures are nonsense. How can you say 2GB is fine, you have no idea what I use memory for. The competition at that price level all have 4GB. Typical apple, getting the user to pay for the status quo.

No need for name calling.

DDR3 uses less voltage, which uses less power. That's the advantage especially in a notebook. This info came from Lenovo, so you can try and chalk it down to Apple as much as you like but you'll epic fail (to quote the kidz).

You are correct, I wouldn't know you from Adam therefore I have no idea what you might use a Mac for. My figures are based on daily usage of a MacBook Pro since March 2006 - I'll call it experience since it's had 512Mb/1GB and 2GB RAM in it so far.

ARGH! My estimated delivery time for my MacBook Pro is November 10th/11th now! Practically a month to wait. I wonder if I can cancel it and see if I can pick up one in an Apple store?

How did you manage to blag the HE? What do they ask ya?

The HE discount can actually be blagged a number of ways if you're the dishonest sort. I'm sure a good google would find you what seek, alternatively, you could always ring up the HE store and see what happens - besides, it's not like they're gonna call the police on you is it? ;)

Well, couldn't wait any longer. Went down to the Apple store in London and picked up the 2.4ghz MacBook, neoprene case and airline charger.

Lost out on the discount but I wanted it for when I go on holiday...

this thing is just a work of art :).....I'll do some proper artsy pictures for you if you like :p

Need to cancel my online order now! lol

It was easy, I just rang them up and said I was going to Queen Mary university and was interested in getting a quote for the macbook pro.. The guy asked for my email and then processed my order.. He did ask me if I could send him a copy of my student ID card, I just said yeah I would, but obviously I haven't, and I received a confirmation email saying my laptop will be delivered 3rd - 4th November..

If you want the number of the guy I spoke to, just let me know..

Here we go.

I could have taken some better ones and more of them but I'm going out...like...now. So I'll take some more tomorrow for you all :)

Hope you like them though
