*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Yes, but wouldn't you expect more from such a price premium, whether you use it or not? I am sure the time will come when it is difficult to share your laptop screen with somebody

Ideally the screen should be perfect for the cash yes, the worst pics i have found are the gizmodo pics, i have seen quite a few pics now and they dont look nowhere near as bad. Maybe there are different panel manufacturers? :)

I have had laptops with extremely poor viewing angles before and it wasnt an issue for how i use lappies so i will be happy.

I'm going to get a new 15inch Macbook Pro. Is it worth the £32 upgrade to the 7200rpm hard drive (and does the difference present thermal / battery issues), and is it worth £92 extra for 4GB of RAM?

You can get a standalone WD 320GB 7200RPM drive on OCUK for £62, so that's steep for an upgrade. Apple usually rob you for RAM, but DDR3 might have changed the situation.

Speaking of discounts, I think I could get ~44% off if the stars aligned and I used Quidco, HE, then work's purchase rebate on top! Not in the market for anything just now though :o

Just found myself hitting buy on the 2.53GHz MBP. I'm so dead if the missus finds the invoice - she's been asking for a holiday for six months :D

Managed to blag the HE discount and hopefully the new red ipod nano will appease her. No need to tell her of the rebate though eh ;)

I can if you like mate...but to be fair. It's a 13inch screen?! your hardly going to get a load of mates over to watch a DVD on it are you?

You adjust it to where your head is and its fine, seriously it's a lovely bit of kit.

If it's not too much trouble, though it's up to you :)

Guess I'm looking for perfection what it being Apple and all. I had a Dell with similar issues but that's a Dell and this is a Mac, that's why I was surprised to see the comparison pic on gizmodo. 13" is a nice size wouldn't consider 15" as that's far too big. Typing this on a 12" but the overall niceness of the Macbook may sway me to upgrade.

If you're doing colour critical work then you wouldn't be doing it on any notebook screen, you'd be doing it on an external (professional quality) display. Glossy or matte was always a personal preference thing more than a technical issue, the screens aren't brilliantly colour accurate anyway. The only really valid argument is using it outdoors and even then how many other brands offered the option, sony certainly didn't bother...

i do a bit of print work, but not a huge amount, but i have to see clients so i need the colors to be what they want on the screen rather then what comes out after things get printed. im no professional so to speak, so professional screens like that i wouldnt really be in the need for, yet.

but as i said, if youre out in a office, bar, or where ever, you want to make sure the client can see whats on your screen when ever possible, and not have to sit somewhere to view it if its not conveinient.

sonys arent known for design, rather then style and office use, same as Thinkpads, even though theyre a beasty of a lappy in specs. i do wish or might still get a Thinkpad in the future as theyre just a reliable piece of kit so ive heard

Got myself a 2.4 MB and am very happy with it! Took me four trips to Apple Store at 9am to get one though as retails seem to be selling out withing a few hours of stock refreshments.
